Pavion and our family of companies are seeking a talented and motivated Sprinkler Service Manager to join our fire business unit. The Sprinkler Service Manager is responsible for the day-to-day coordination and performance of the sprinkler service department. This role will oversee technician scheduling, customer service, work order flow, staffing, and general operational performance while partnering with technical leadership as needed for code, licensing, and complex field matters. The ideal candidate will have experience leading field service teams, coordinating technicians, and supporting customers in a fast-paced service environment. Previous fire sprinkler or fire protection experience is strongly preferred, but an active sprinkler license is not required.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the sprinkler service department
- Coordinate technician schedules, service calls, planned maintenance, repairs, and small projects
- Assign technicians based on availability, experience, workload, customer needs, and geographic location
- Monitor department workload and adjust schedules to meet customer commitments
- Lead, coach, and support sprinkler service technicians and field personnel
- Conduct regular team meetings and communicate department priorities, safety information, and expectations
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, training, and retention of service technicians
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels to support current workload and future growth
- Serve as an escalation point for customer concerns and help ensure issues are resolved promptly and professionally
- Maintain strong customer relationships and provide timely communication regarding scheduling, repairs, deficiencies, pricing, and job status
- Review service reports, deficiencies, technician recommendations, and job documentation for completeness and accuracy
- Partner with technical resources when additional support is needed for complex sprinkler system issues
- Assist with estimates and proposals for sprinkler repairs, deficiencies, emergency work, and small projects
- Follow up on outstanding proposals and service opportunities
- Partner with Sales on customer needs and additional service opportunities
- Monitor department revenue, labor utilization, technician productivity, overtime, backlog, and general operational performance
- Review work orders for accurate labor, material, subcontractor, and billing information
- Help ensure completed work is processed and invoiced in a timely manner
- Monitor service backlog and ensure work is scheduled and completed efficiently
- Set expectations for technician productivity, quality, safety, and customer service
- Conduct coaching, performance discussions, and employee development activities
- Identify training needs and support technicians in obtaining or maintaining required licenses and certifications
- Address performance or conduct concerns as needed
- Promote a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment
- Support a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and site-specific requirements
- Ensure technicians have the appropriate PPE, tools, equipment, and training needed to perform their work safely
- Collaborate with Inspection, Construction, Sales, Procurement, Engineering, and other internal departments as needed
- Participate in customer and jobsite meetings when required
- Support emergency service situations outside normal business hours when necessary
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in fire sprinkler, fire protection, field service operations, or a related service environment
- Previous supervisory, service management, field leadership, or service coordination experience
- Experience scheduling and coordinating field technicians
- General working knowledge of commercial fire sprinkler systems
- Experience working with customers and resolving service-related concerns
- Experience reviewing service reports, work orders, or similar field documentation
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and customer service skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced service environment
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to use service management, scheduling, and Microsoft Office applications
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to periodically visit active commercial, industrial, construction, and service sites
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs and access mechanical and sprinkler equipment areas as required
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry equipment or materials associated with fire protection service work
- Ability to support emergency service situations outside normal business hours when required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working specifically in the fire sprinkler or fire protection industry
- Working knowledge of applicable NFPA standards, including NFPA 13, NFPA 20, and NFPA 25
- Experience managing a sprinkler service department or similar field service operation
- Experience with estimating, job costing, billing, and service profitability
- Experience monitoring department financial performance, including revenue, labor utilization, and backlog
- Experience developing and mentoring sprinkler technicians or field leaders
- Experience working with commercial, industrial, institutional, healthcare, education, or other complex customer environments
- Experience supporting recurring service and project-based sprinkler work
- NICET certification or other relevant fire protection certification
The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000 annually. The starting salary will be determined based on qualifications, experience, education, skills, certifications, and internal equity.
