Summary Job Description: Days: Monday-Friday; hours may vary based on department needs The Professional Development Specialist serves as a transformational leader who enhances patient care and staff performance through education, consultation, and leadership. This role identifies learning needs and develops orientation programs, mandatory training, in-service education, and continuing education opportunities to support hospital staff excellence and organizational goals. Job Duties
- Assesses learning needs and develops evidence-based education programs, including orientation, in-service training, mandatory education, and continuing education for hospital staff.
- Coordinates and delivers educational activities using adult learning principles and innovative instructional methods to enhance staff knowledge, performance, and patient outcomes.
- Evaluates program effectiveness, communicates results, maintains required documentation, and manages continuing education accreditation and compliance records.
- Serves on and leads committees, teams, and projects to support organizational initiatives and drive evidence-based practice improvements.
- Provides consultation, education, and clinical support to staff, integrating and disseminating research findings and best practices into clinical standards, policies, and patient care.
- Maintains current knowledge in clinical education and area of specialty.
- Collaborates with other educators, department directors, staff, and others to facilitate achievement of identified goals for interdisciplinary staff education & competency assessment/ maintenance.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree is required or must be obtained within 3 years of hire.
- Three (3) years of acute care clinical experience within the last five years.
- Current RN licensure by the Kentucky Board of Nursing or comparable clinical licensure with ACLS and PALS included within the scope of practice.
