Department of Accounting

The Position

The Department of Accounting within the Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa invites applications for one non-tenure Instructional Track Faculty Position in Accounting at the levels of Assistant Professor of Instruction or Practice, Associate Professor of Instruction or Practice, or Full Professor of Instruction or Practice starting Spring 2027. Rank will be based on experience and record of achievement. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications. Position may range from 50% time (teaching 4 classes/year) to 100% time (teaching 8 classes/year) and include a 1-7 year contract, determined by rank and experience, with benefits. Education Requirement:

CPA, Masters or PhD in accounting or in a related field.

Required Qualifications:




  • Evidence of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level in accounting OR A demonstrated high level of competence in teaching through professional experience. The candidate must be able to teach courses in Financial Accounting and one other subject area (Managerial OR AI/Technology).



  • Strong background in Accounting with industry experience (3-5 years).


Desirable Qualifications:




  • Strong knowledge of financial and managerial accounting acquired through academic preparation, professional practice, or a combination of both.





  • Demonstrated ability to integrate emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), business analytics, and data visualization tools, into accounting instruction and curriculum development to prepare students for the evolving demands of the profession.





  • Skilled at communicating and collaborating across a broad range of cultural backgrounds and technical expertise.





  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a dynamic environment.





  • Demonstrated ability to address complex or sensitive situations with professionalism, sound judgment, discretion, and fairness.





  • Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and excellence in teaching, learning, professional practice, or organizational effectiveness.





  • Ability to use technology effectively to support communication, instruction, data management, assessment, or project coordination.





  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, train, supervise, or support the development of others in professional or educational settings.



  • Commitment to fostering student success through involvement in student organizations, mentoring, advising, recruitment, outreach, and other service activities, as well as flexibility to support instruction and program needs that may occur during evenings, weekends, or other nontraditional hours.
