NEUROLOGY FACULTY - MOVEMENT DISORDERS

The University of Iowa Department of Neurology is seeking neurologists for full-time faculty positions in the Movement Disorders Division. Appointments may be on the tenure track or clinical (non-tenure) track, depending on the candidate's academic background and career goals. Academic rank will range from Assistant Professor to Professor, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Depending on the candidate's interests and position availability, there may also be an opportunity for a part-time affiliated appointment with the VA.

Tenure-track candidates must demonstrate a strong record of and commitment to developing an independent laboratory-based, translational, or clinical research program. Clinical-track faculty will have opportunities to participate in clinical and basic research, including clinical trials in movement disorders.

The position includes an outpatient clinical practice caring for patients with a broad range of movement disorders, including Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonia, torticollis, gait disorders, ataxia, blepharospasm, chorea, Tourette syndrome, and related conditions. Faculty may also participate in specialized programs and clinics, including General Movement Disorders, Botulinum Toxin Treatment, Deep Brain Stimulation, multidisciplinary clinics for Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease, Ataxia, and Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia. General neurology responsibilities, such as inpatient service, consultation service, and resident continuity clinics, are shared among departmental faculty.

University of Iowa Health Care (UIHC) is designated as a Center of Excellence by the Parkinson's Foundation and by the Huntington's Disease Society of America. UIHC is also a member of the Parkinson Study Group, NeuroNEXT, Huntington Study Group, and Dystonia Coalition. We have vibrant federally funded research programs in basic and clinical science on Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease, and an active Deep Brain Stimulation program with Neurosurgery.

The Department of Neurology is made up of more than 40 full-time faculty members who provide local, national and international leadership across a range of neurology subspecialties, including Cognitive Neurology, Cerebrovascular Disease, Clinical Electrophysiology, Epilepsy, Movement Disorders, Neuroimmunology/Multiple Sclerosis, Neuromuscular Disease, Neuropsychology, and Sleep Disorders. • MD or equivalent and eligible for an unrestricted Iowa medical license.
• Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
• Movement Disorder fellowship completed.

• Commitment to patient care, teaching, and scholarly professional activities.
• Demonstrated experience in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
