Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, the Staff Educator is responsible for the development, coordination, delivery and/or evaluation of educational activities for staff within the Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center. Education will be accomplished in the clinical as well as classroom environment. This position serves as a resource for staff caring for residents as well as other facility departments. The staff educator assesses and determines learning needs, implements education programs, and evaluates education outcomes.

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, the Infection Preventionist is responsible for the development, coordination, delivery and/or evaluation of educational activities for staff within the Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center, as well as coordination and active oversight of the facility's Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP), including the Antibiotic Stewardship Program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Staff Educator
  • Follow established standards of nursing practice and facility policies & procedures
  • Develop, maintain and deliver orientation and training to new hires within the facility
  • Develop, maintain and deliver on-going in-service education to facility staff
  • Assess training outcomes and make recommendations for improvements
  • Ensure accurate training records are completed and maintained
  • Serve as a consultant and resource to staff regarding nursing related practices and procedures, as well as facility policies
  • Act as a Super User for electronic medical record system. Train staff on proper use of the system
  • Assist with incidents and investigations as appropriate
  • Maintain current working knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies and procedures

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Infection Preventionist
  • Serve as the facility's designated Infection Preventionist and coordinate and be actively accountable for the facility's IPCP
  • Conduct infection surveillance; maintain accurate infection-incidence, investigation, intervention and corrective-action records; and identify trends, clusters and outbreaks
  • Investigate suspected outbreaks and coordinate response and control measures with the DON, Medical Director, Administrator, public health authorities and other appropriate personnel.
  • Provide oversight of the facility's Antibiotic Stewardship Program and integrate antibiotic stewardship with the IPCP and QAPI processes
  • Develop, implement, monitor and manage an ongoing IPCP designed to prevent, recognize and control the onset and spread of infections and communicable diseases
  • Manage Respiratory Protection program
REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Active Washington State RN License
  • Minimum two years in a Long-Term Care/Skilled Nursing Facility required
  • One to two years' experience in staff development or as a nurse educator preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of nursing practice, staff education, infection prevention and/or long-term care
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Washington Nursing Home Infection Preventionist training course provided by the CDC. Must obtain within six months of hire, if not already certified.
