Senior Piping Engineer

Purpose

You will provide advanced piping engineering services to Worley and its customers, including technical leadership, project coordination, and mentorship within the piping engineering team. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality engineering solutions while ensuring compliance with customer requirements, industry standards, and project objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver piping engineering services that meet Worley, customer, and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements on time and within budget.
  • Lead, manage, and execute piping engineering activities for projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Develop piping engineering deliverables including specifications, calculations, material requisitions, technical evaluations, and engineering studies.
  • Participate in project planning, design reviews, interdisciplinary coordination meetings, and progress reporting activities.
  • Ensure project scope is clearly defined and that engineering changes comply with established project change management processes.
  • Provide technical guidance and support during procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Review vendor documents, conduct technical bid evaluations, and support procurement activities to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Serve as Lead Piping Engineer on assigned projects as required, providing technical oversight and coordination of project deliverables.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and designers through coaching, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance.
  • Coordinate with project management, clients, vendors, and multi-disciplinary engineering teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Proactively identify, communicate, and resolve technical issues, risks, and design conflicts.
  • Support the development and implementation of engineering best practices, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry codes, standards, emerging technologies, and best practices related to piping engineering.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and compliance throughout all engineering activities.
If Responsible for a Team
  • Plan, assign, and supervise piping engineering work activities and deliverables.
  • Promote collaboration and workshare strategies where appropriate.
  • Monitor progress and ensure engineering services are delivered in accordance with Worley standards, customer expectations, schedule requirements, and budget objectives.
  • Provide leadership, performance guidance, and technical development support to team members.
What You Will Bring Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements
  • Strong technical and practical piping engineering skills with a demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality, accurate, and timely engineering solutions.
  • Thorough knowledge of piping engineering principles, practices, methodologies, and design standards.
  • Strong understanding of the interfaces between piping engineering and other engineering disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of applicable local and international codes, standards, regulations, and industry practices.
  • Experience performing pipe stress analysis, piping system design, equipment layout reviews, material selection, and constructability assessments.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard piping engineering and design software.
  • Competent use of Microsoft Office Suite and related engineering applications.
  • Extensive experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering projects from concept development through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and startup.
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams and coordinate activities across multiple disciplines.
Preferred Experience
  • 10+ years of piping engineering experience.
  • At least 10 years supporting petrochemical and refining projects through design, execution, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Strong refinery and downstream processing experience.
  • On-site and/or refinery-based engineering experience.
  • Oil & Gas industry experience.
  • Experience serving as Lead Piping Engineer on large capital or brownfield projects.
  • Experience supporting client-facing project execution in an EPCM environment.
Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related Engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
Preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications in Engineering, Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • Supervisory or leadership training and experience.
  • Additional certifications related to piping engineering, process safety, or project execution.
Preferred Candidate Profile
  • 10+ years of piping engineering experience in refinery, petrochemical, chemical processing, or oil & gas facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex piping engineering scopes and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong knowledge of ASME B31.3, API, ASTM, and other applicable industry standards.
  • Experience supporting brownfield and greenfield capital projects.
  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership from concept development through commissioning and startup.
  • Strong communication, client engagement, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working within EPCM project environments preferred.
Additional Information
  • This role is based in the Long Beach, California Worley office and is not eligible for remote work.
  • Travel to customer sites, vendor facilities, and project locations may be required.
  • Salary Hourly Range: $62.04 - $91.23, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Benefits: Eligible for PTO, 401(k), medical, dental, vision, and other company-sponsored benefit programs.
