Are you fueled by a love for hospitality and ready to join the team behind one of Pittsburgh's most iconic and top-ranked boutique hotels? Welcome to Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh-a bold blend of historic charm and modern flair, where unforgettable experiences are crafted daily. We are seeking a Director of People & Culture to join our team and serve as an essential strategic partner on our Executive Committee, shaping the very essence of our culture. In this role you will report to the Hotel General Manager and be responsible for fostering unity and teamwork among our talented associates.

At Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh, we invite you to be part of a workplace where individuality is celebrated, personal growth is empowered, and every moment matters. Our culture is built on the values of Be Yourself, Lead Yourself, Make It Count, creating a vibrant, inclusive environment for passionate hospitality professionals. Housed in the historic James H. Reed building, originally built in 1903, our 248-room boutique hotel seamlessly blends old-world architecture with bold, whimsical interiors. Located in a city undergoing a creative revival, the Kimpton Hotel Monaco stands out as Pittsburgh's fearless answer to boutique hospitality. If you're ready to bring your unique personality and creativity to a team that values genuine guest connections, we'd love to welcome you aboard.

What will you be doing?

  • Oversee the full People & Culture lifecycle, including talent acquisition, onboarding, team building, organizational development, associate relations, leaves of absence, payroll, benefits, workers' compensation, culture initiatives and community involvement.
  • Provide direction, coaching and support to the People & Culture Coordinator, setting clear priorities and creating opportunities for growth while ensuring the day-to-day operation of the department runs smoothly and thoughtfully.
  • Partner with leaders and associates on employee relations matters, including investigations, coaching, counseling, conflict resolution and policy interpretation and enforcement-with empathy, good judgment and a healthy dose of common sense.
  • Champion Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh's values and ensure they show up in how we hire, welcome, develop, recognize, engage and support our people.
  • Recommend, evaluate and support IHG and Marcus Hotels' brand training and development programs, as well as remain current with industry trends to make necessary enhancements. Facilitate Newbie Orientation, coordinate alcohol certification training, CPR training, ServSafe training, etc.
  • Lead annual goal setting, performance reviews, salary increase processes and bonus payouts for eligible associates, while helping leaders turn feedback into meaningful development. Utilize Perceptyx to track and analyze Associate Engagement Survey results and work with leaders to turn feedback into action.
  • Develop annual budgets for salaried labor and People & Culture operating expenses and ensure monthly forecasting and expense management are accurate and on track.
  • Participate in weekly labor meetings and be a champion for the UKG timekeeping system.
  • Own the hotel and restaurant's recruitment strategy and talent pipeline, from building relationships with local schools, community organizations, hospitality programs, international J1 programs and other talent sources to leading job fairs, networking, interviewing and hiring.
  • Identify high-potential talent, coach and develop future leaders and champion their growth throughout their journey at Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh.
  • Champion associate recognition and service excellence through programs like People Pleaser of the Month, Above & Beyond, celebrating positive guest feedback, encouraging cross-department appreciation and finding new ways to make great service contagious.
  • Ensure our policies, standards and practices are communicated clearly and consistently, while maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state and local employment laws and regulations. Keep HRIS system up to date by keying terminations, increases, LOA, etc.
  • Provide oversight and partnership across compensation, benefits, leave administration, workers' compensation, safety and security compliance-making sure our people are supported and our practices are sound. Lead annual Open Enrollment process and assist associates through it.
  • Champion a culture where our associates and guests feel safe, supported and cared for. Lead and participate in the hotel's Safety Committee, partner with leaders to address safety and security opportunities and ensure the hotel is prepared for and successful in safety and security audits.
  • Jump in where needed. Hospitality is a team sport and sometimes the most important thing you can do is roll up your sleeves and help wherever the moment calls for it.

What should you bring to the role?

  • 5 to 8 years of total HR experience, including responsibility for talent acquisition, associate relations, training, benefits, etc.
  • 3 to 5+ years of proven HR leadership experience, preferably in a hotel or hospitality setting
