Responsibilities:

JOB SUMMARY
The Health Information Management (HIM) Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and overseeing activities of the HIM staff assigned for shift, or when necessary. Activities include but are not limited to release of information, chart analysis, chart processing, chart deficiency, and data integrity. May be assigned to oversee and coordinate specialty areas which include birth registration, physician suspension, state/federal release of information and reporting, and transcription posting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Coordinates patient record processing activities within the HIM Department. Establishes work priorities, and resolves problems related to daily operations. Assists HIM Supervisor in ensuring appropriate coverage in all HIM areas.
  • Trains HIM staff and monitors quality and productivity of HIM staff. Provides timely feedback and re-trains as necessary. Monitors work queues and other job assignments and takes appropriate actions to ensure proper coverage of HIM staff work.
  • Assists HIM staff with day-to-day activities as needed to keep abreast of changes in work protocols and to ensure adequate coverage in all HIM areas.
  • Assists HIM leadership with issues relating to performance, conduct, and work habits.
  • Actively participates in department activities. Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate. Completes all position and department safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Associates Preferred
EXPERIENCE
  • 1 year year lead, coordinating, or supervisory experience. Required
  • 2 years in any or all of the following: Release of information, correspondence, master patient index maintenance, records analysis, medical records processing. Required
  • Other Basic understanding and use of computers, telephones, fax, copy machines, and data entry into computer programs.
    Experience in high quality customer service.
    Demonstrated experience of verbal and written communication in a clear and professional manner. Required
  • 2 years lead, coordinating, or supervisory experience Preferred
  • 3 years in any or all of the following: Release of information, correspondence, master patient index maintenance, records analysis, medical records processing. Preferred
  • Other Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations relative to birth registration, and confidentiality and security of patient health information.
    Experience in a role utilizing excellent communication and analytical skills. Preferred
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - Certification Preferred
