Reporting to the Operations Manager at the Hennepin County Energy Center (HCEC), the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Engineer is responsible for operations and maintenance of district heating and cooling plants, and supporting equipment and systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
7. Perform general house-keeping activities such as: plant cleaning, painting and preservation of equipment and facilities, waste disposal, organization of storage of materials and others as assigned.

While performing the duties and responsibilities of this position, the employee is frequently required to keyboard; clearly communicate oral information to other workers, customers or the public; and use near visual acuity of 20 inches or less. The incumbent is frequently required to climb ramps or stairs; sit, stand or walk; use far visual acuity of 20 feet or more; and be able to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (machinery alarms, etc.). The employee is frequently required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; push and pull objects; reach at/below shoulder level and reach overhead; stoop, kneel and crouch; climb ladders/ropes/scaffolding; use gross manipulation to seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with hands; use fine manipulation to pick or pinch objects with fingers; confined space; and use peripheral vision. Must be capable of maneuvering throughout industrial facilities such as energy plants and building HVAC mechanical rooms, etc. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position involves working in a steam, hot water, and/or chilled water plant and/or its distribution system. While performing job duties, employees may occasionally encounter potential hazards, including fumes, airborne particles, high-pressure steam in piping or equipment, both hot and cold temperatures, and hazards associated with moving machinery. The work environment's noise level typically ranges from moderate to loud. Other potential hazards common to heating and cooling plants may include confined spaces, slippery surfaces, rotating equipment, chemical handling (e.g., water treatment chemicals), and burns. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and physical controls are in place as needed to mitigate these risks. This is a union position with an hourly pay at $46.06 to $57.57 per the contract based on your license level. This is an International Union of Operating Engineer Local Union No. 70 position. Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is also provided.
