Do you have a passion for asset integrity, safety excellence, and ensuring the reliability of critical equipment? Air Products is seeking a Mechanical Integrity Specialist who thrives on solving technical challenges, driving compliance, and supporting safe, efficient plant operations. In this role, you will lead and coordinate inspection activities for piping systems, tanks, pressure vessels, and fired equipment across our operating facilities while helping maintain the highest standards of mechanical integrity and reliability.

As a key member of the team, you will perform inspections, manage and coordinate third-party inspection, scaffolding, and insulation contractors, and provide on-call support for plant needs, including emergency outages. You will work closely with the Mechanical Integrity Program Specialist to maintain and enhance inspection programs while supporting operating facilities during internal and external audits. Success in this position requires strong collaboration with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Metallurgy, and external inspection partners to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable operations.

Core Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop expertise with internal Mechanical Integrity related engineering/safety standards, Mechanical Integrity Software and SAP

  • Become knowledgeable of external Mechanical Integrity related Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (API, ASME, NBIC, etc.)

  • Participate actively in department/plant safety programs. Promote safety rules and regulations as well as environmental compliance

  • Execute field inspection activity - assure that inspections are properly carried out, reports are completed/documented, inspection findings are assessed and resolved

  • Participate in pressure systems failure investigations and root cause analysis

  • Develop expertise in existing and developing technologies associated with the inspection of pressurized systems including: Ultrasonic Phased Array and Shear Wave, ACFM, Eddy Current, radiography, etc.

  • Maintain API Inspector certifications

  • Prepare and provide technical inspection reports. Enter information into CMMS system (SAP) and Credosoft (Mechanical Integrity Software) to provide accurate documentation on equipment and information.

  • Provide the necessary technical leadership to continuously improve Mechanical Integrity Inspection Programs

  • Engage actively in a team environment, bring a positive attitude and maintain personal accountability

  • Participate in the planning and execution of minor and major shutdowns. Provide technical and hands on support as required during shutdowns

  • Assist with inspection data migration from current location into Credosoft

  • Travel to remote sites in other states, or Canada is required. Expected travel varies pending schedules but could be up to 50%

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum 5 years of field experience in the area of Mechanical Integrity of Piping and Vessels inspection are required.

  • Experience with inspection and inspection methods for vessels, tanks and piping required.

  • API 510 Vessel Inspection Certification required.

  • API 570 Piping Inspection Certification required.

  • Working knowledge of basic word processing, email, and spreadsheet programs required.

  • Ability to read drawings. Required

  • Understand the properties, behaviors, and hazards of the equipment. Preferred

  • Experience in a petrochemical or industrial gases environment. Preferred

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels within the organization. Required

  • Good organizational skills, the ability to work alone if necessary, and the ability to lead a crew.

  • Ability to work extended hours including providing night shift coverage when needed. Required

  • SAP or equivalent experience CMMS system a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in an industrial environment which includes climbing ladders and steps in elevated work, get on scaffolding, get on manlift type equipment and wear PPE such as full body harness

  • Must be able to wear supplied air and air purifying respiratory protection (half-face or full face)

  • Able to work in confined spaces

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

  • Must be willing to work at a tobacco-free facility where required

In California, the anticipated pay range is $126,300 -$168,100 plus bonus. It's important to note that individual compensation packages are determined based on a multitude of factors, including but not limited to experience and qualifications

ARC is a California specific program to provide additional base pay compensation for exempt employees who reside in select high-cost counties and directly support an Air Products site or business within a high-cost count
