Staff Facilities Design Engineer, Wet Mechanical Systems, Solar Manufacturing

Project Crystal is Tesla's multi-GW solar manufacturing program spanning polysilicon refining, monocrystalline ingot growth, wafering, and high-efficiency cell manufacturing. We are building facilities where mechanical utilities are process-critical - not afterthought building services.

As a Senior or Staff Facilities Design Engineer focused on Wet Mechanical Systems, you will own the design direction for liquid-side utility plants and distribution that keep process toolsrunning:chilled water, process heating water, cooling towers, industrial water, and closely related wet systems. You will translate process equipment utility demand into reliable, efficient, maintainable plant and distribution designs, and lead external design partners to deliver construction-ready packages.

• Own wet mechanical basis of design (BOD), design criteria, and system architecture for Crystal manufacturing buildings (pilot through scale)
• Ownchilled water (including low-temperature process CW), process heating / hot water, cooling towers, chillers, heat exchangers, pumps, primary/secondary distribution, industrial process water, domestic water interfaces, sanitary and process waste, safety shower/eyewash systems
• Convert process equipment utility matrices (EQM), vendor datasheets, and manufacturing layouts into plant capacity, redundancy (e.g., N+1), diversity, and distribution strategies
• Lead and technically direct A&E / design firms; review calculations, P&IDs, one-lines, layouts, specifications, and IFC packages; drive quality and Tesla design standards
• Identifyand specify long-lead wet mechanical equipment (chillers, towers, pumps, heat exchangers, tanks) and support procurement technical evaluation
• Partner tightly with Dry Mechanical, Plumbing, Process (UPW/DI, wastewater, bulk chemicals), Electrical, Controls, Architecture, Structural, Fire Protection, EHS/Process Safety, Tool Install, Construction, and Commissioning
• Support construction RFIs, shop drawing review, field coordination, and commissioning planning for wet systems
• Design for energy efficiency, operability, maintainability, and production uptime; document assumptions and residual risks clearly
• Mentor junior engineers and set technical bar for wet mechanical design quality across the program (Staff expectation)

• Bachelor'sDegree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 8-12+of experienceyears withdemonstratedtechnical leadership of complex industrial mechanical design
• Proven ownership of industrial wet mechanical / process cooling design packages from BOD through construction documents (not CAD-only or pure field ops)
• Hands-on design experience with central utility plants and process chilled/heating water systems for advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, solar, battery, specialty chemical, or similar
• Strong working knowledge of hydronic system design: pumps, control valves, expansion, water treatment interfaces, pipe materials for industrial service, insulation, and instrumentation basics
• Ability to read and challenge processequipmentutility data and vendor packages; comfortable with load calculations, diversity, and redundancy tradeoffs.
• Experience directing orQC'ingexternal A&E deliverables
• Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.3, ASHRAE, IPC/UPC as applicable, local industrial codes)
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to present technical recommendations to program leadership
