Summary of Position

The Senior Bioinformatics Software Developer II will have demonstrated knowledge and interest in Software Development, Bioinformatics, Data Engineering, Data Science and AI. They will architect, implement, and support the following: data pipelines, database management, analysis tools, and user interfaces for large-scale bioinformatics software solutions. They will provide technical leadership to the development team, drive key technical decisions, demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, mentor junior developers and play a key role in delivering high-quality software solutions that align with business objectives.



Key Job Elements



  • Lead the design and implementation of robust, scalable bioinformatics workflows.
  • Work with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate biological questions into computational solutions.
  • Maintain and extend existing tools - refactor or modernize legacy pipelines.
  • Perform code reviews, unit testing, and documentation.
  • Support data analysts and scientists with technical troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to scientific publications, technical whitepapers, or validation reports if applicable.
  • Architect, develop, test, and maintain Bioinformatics Pipeline Systems.
  • Research and develop new algorithms and programs to support and improve the Bioinformatics system's efficiency.
  • Data management, data maintenance, and database administration.
  • Identify, design, and implement process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalabilities.
  • Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency, and other key business performance metrics.
  • Supporting business operations, processing, and exceptions.
  • Database design, analysis, implementation, and support.
  • System administration and maintenance.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Experience



  • A Bachelor's Degree with a major in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with software design, implementation, and deployment of enterprise application software.
  • Knowledge of Java, JavaScript, .NET, Python, Bash Scripts.
  • Knowledge of Database, SQL.
  • Knowledge of GIT Source Control, Windows, and Linux.
  • Ability to handle periodic on-call duty as well as out-of-band requests.
  • Understanding of Requirements Analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.


Additional Skills



  • Deep understanding of Programming Languages, Algorithms, and Data Analysis.
  • Understanding of Bioinformatics, Genetics, Biology.
  • Enjoy working in a highly collaborative and fast-pace environment on high-impact, open source software development. Prior experience in health informatics is a plus.
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS).
  • Experience with BWA, R, Picard, and GATK and other Bioinformatics tools.
  • Experience with Scala, AWS, NoSql, Statistics, big data, Apache Spark.
  • Experience with Java RESTful services, JavaScript, and XML; user and design documentation to support open-source products.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum software development methodologies.
