The Endoscopy Registered Nurse (RN) is the clinical expert and operational lead for the endoscopy procedure room. This position focuses on colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and related GI procedures. The role is responsible for procedure room workflows, endoscopy equipment management, scope reprocessing oversight, staff education, physician collaboration, quality initiatives, and service line development. While reporting to the Pre/Post Nurse Manager, the primary work area and responsibilities are within the endoscopy service line. The purpose of this responsibility is to provide the best patient care and outcomes at Edina Specialty Surgery Center. This is a part-time role, .8 FTE, Monday - Friday, four 8-hour shifts per week with one rotating weekday off. No weekends, holidays, or call requirements. Out of our Edina Specialty Surgery Center

- Provide direct nursing care during endoscopy procedures including patient advocacy.
- Prepare procedure rooms, equipment, supplies, and medications for scheduled procedures.
- Responsibilities include delivering high-quality patient care throughout the endoscopy experience, supporting daily operations of the service line, coordinating workflow and quality initiatives, and completing administrative duties associated with the Service Line Lead role. Dedicated administrative time away from direct patient care will be provided to support leadership responsibilities.
- Assist physicians during GI procedures and anticipate procedural needs.
- Monitor patients and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Collaborate with Pre-op/PACU team to ensure smooth patient flow.
- Provides support, comfort, education and status updates to patient and/or family members
- Develops and provides individualized care based on nursing assessment in accordance with the pre/post-operative plan of care. Reassess and revise as needed.
- Labels and administers medications as ordered and applies principles of aseptic technique, standard and transmission precautions.
- Monitors patients utilizing sound nursing judgment and maintain competent knowledge of equipment based on policies and procedures from patient admission to discharge.
- Follows proper channel of communication and informs department managers of unit activity, patient condition and concerns.
- Complete, accurate, legible and timely documentation of all patient care as indicated per policy.
- Collaborate with other disciplines and departments to maximize patient outcomes and ensure a smooth flow of the perioperative experience.
- Functions within the limits of the MN Nurse Practice Act, State and Federal Laws, the ASC, Pre-op/PACU and OR Department policies and procedures and standards of care.
- Accountable for reporting occurrences through the center's established reporting process related to employee and/or patient/visitor events.
- Fosters the developmental and educational process of self, colleagues, orientees and students (includes functioning as a preceptor).
- Participates in acceptable continuing education, fostering career and skill development including meeting departmental continuing education requirements.
- Assists in managing controllable costs by the proper, non-wasteful use of surgery center resources
Service Line Lead Specific
- Serve as the primary clinical resource for the Endoscopy service line.
- Coordinate orientation, training, education, and competency validation for endoscopy staff.
- Lead and organize GI equipment, products, and workflow in-services.
- Develop and maintain standardized workflows, policies, and procedure room best practices.
- Act as the liaison between physicians, leadership, sterile processing, vendors, and staff.
- Monitor quality indicators and identify process improvement opportunities.
- Maintain readiness for accreditation and regulatory requirements.
- Create and maintain preference cards as promptly as possible, to ensure accuracy, on an ongoing basis.
- Actively communicate with Pre/Post Manager, Purchasing Team, OR Manager, or Director to verify correct equipment and supplies are available for scheduled cases daily.
- Review proposed endoscopy schedule to verify no equipment and instrument conflicts. If conflicts are identified that cannot be remedied, work with the scheduling team to rearrange patient sequence if possible.
- Serve as primary Point of Contact for new instruments, equipment, and supply requests.
- Serve as primary Point of Contact for surgeons and/or their assistants regarding preferences and upcoming cases.
- Precept new staff members in service line when able
Education and Experience:
- Graduate from an NLN accredited school of nursing.
- Current licensure as a RN in the state of MN or WI multi-state required.
- BSN preferred. A combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
- Two years of endoscopy experience in the last 5 years preferred.
- Current BLS/ACLS certification required or competed upon hire.
