Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers intensive residential treatment services within a secure setting. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of youth ages 7- 17 who are experiencing emotional, psychiatric and educational difficulties. In addition to our general psychiatric programs, we also offer specialty programs for youth with more serious challenges. Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. We are licensed by The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education. We are a TRICARE-approved and certified facility.

Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center is seeking a Recreation Therapist to join our team. The position does require therapist towork hoursin the evening and on weekends.

The Psychiatrist is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with mental health, emotional, behavioral, and substance use disorders. The Psychiatrist provides psychiatric assessments, medication management, crisis intervention, treatment planning, and clinical leadership within the behavioral health facility. This position collaborates with an interdisciplinary treatment team to ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care while promoting recovery, safety, and positive clinical outcomes.

Essential Functions:

1. Psychiatric Evaluation and Treatment

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental status examinations.
  • Diagnose mental health and substance use disorders in accordance with current diagnostic criteria.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications.
  • Provide ongoing psychiatric care and medication management.
  • Monitor treatment effectiveness and patient progress.

2. Patient Care

  • Assess and manage patients experiencing acute psychiatric crises.
  • Participate in admission, treatment, transfer, and discharge processes.
  • Evaluate patients for suicide risk, self-harm behaviors, aggression, and other safety concerns.
  • Coordinate treatment recommendations with patients, families, and treatment teams.
  • Provide psychiatric consultation as needed.

3. Leadership and Collaboration

  • Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Collaborate with therapists, nurses, social workers, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in treatment planning meetings and case reviews.
  • Provide clinical guidance and consultation to staff regarding psychiatric care.
  • Support evidence-based clinical practices and quality initiatives.

4. Documentation and Compliance

  • Complete psychiatric evaluations, progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and legally compliant medical records.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and accreditation standards.
  • Participate in audits, peer reviews, and quality improvement activities.


5.
Risk Management and Safety

  • Manage psychiatric emergencies and behavioral crises.
  • Participate in restraint, seclusion, and emergency medication reviews as required.
  • Ensure patient rights and confidentiality are maintained.
  • Assist with incident reviews and risk management activities.

6. Medical Staff Responsibilities

  • Participate in medical staff meetings and committees.
  • Maintain clinical privileges and professional credentials.
  • Complete required continuing medical education (CME) activities.
  • Support facility accreditation and licensing requirements.

Qualifications

Education:

  • M.D. Degree

Licensure/Certification:

  • Board Eligible or Board Certified Psychiatrist.
  • CPR certification and Handle with Care.
  • Current Physician License from the State of Virginia.
