Job Description
ECU Office of Clinical Skills Assessment and Education ( OCSAE) is currently hiring Student Standardized Patients.

This position is not a part-time position with a set schedule or hours and will have sporadic type hours that are based on learner events.

A Standardized Patient (SP) is trained using a medical case scenarios to portray the symptoms, personalities and life situation of actual patients, working with medical students and learners from all health sciences areas. During a simulation, the learner interviews the SP and performs basic, non-invasive physical exam techniques. A goal of the program is to foster an environment where learners can practice, train, and test effective communication skills and exam techniques. Some simulations include SP assessments of clinical and interpersonal skills of learners. SP responsibilities may include such tasks as checking room inventory and room set-up, as well as post-event organization.

SPs may also work as Proctors to assist trainers with event preparation and execution. Duties may include event operations, exam room monitoring, attendance taking, computer setup, accounting for event materials, and restocking exam rooms. SPs and Proctors may engage in other duties such as making copies, reviewing paperwork and videos, operating computers, copiers, and paper shredders, and assisting the team with other program needs.

Clinical Skills Assessment and Education is located on the 2nd floor in the Eastern AHEC and ECU Clinical Skills Building. Activities occur in Brody School of Medicine ( SOM) and other offsite locations.

Hours typically vary from 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and occasionally 6:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Rate of pay will begin at $15.00 per hour and will vary based on job assignment(s). SPs work on an as-needed basis. Reliable transportation is required.

Applicants must be comfortable with wearing a medical gown and willing to serve as a body model for non-invasive physical examinations.
GPA Requirement Minimum of 2.0
Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.)
Unable to consider applicants who are enrolled in the Nursing, Medical, Dental or PA graduate programs as this will present a conflict of interest.

Valid NC Driver's License preferred.
