Phlebotomist

Worksite: MedStar Ob/GYN, 2415 Musgrove Road, Silver Spring, MD

Training Location: Plum Orchard PSC, 12210 Plum Orchard Drive, Suite 215, Silver Spring, MD 20904

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM

Duartion- 3 months


Position Summary

We are seeking a Phlebotomist to support an Ob/Gyn practice in Silver Spring, MD. The selected candidate will primarily perform laboratory blood draws for approximately 20 patients per day.

This position requires excellent venipuncture skills, strong attention to detail, professionalism, and a compassionate approach when working with patients. Because the practice serves patients who may be experiencing challenges related to fertility and pregnancy, the phlebotomist should demonstrate sensitivity, empathy, and professionalism during patient interactions.


Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Perform approximately 20 blood draws per day.
  • Perform venipuncture safely and accurately.
  • Follow appropriate specimen collection and handling procedures.
  • Verify patient information and ensure accurate specimen identification.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to laboratory collections.
  • Provide professional and compassionate patient service.
  • Communicate appropriately with patients before, during, and after blood collection.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Follow laboratory and site safety procedures.
  • Work independently while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
  • Remain on your feet during periods of patient blood-draw activity.
  • Complete approximately 2 weeks of initial training.
  • Perform other phlebotomy-related duties as assigned.


Work Environment

  • Specialty: Obstetrics/Gynecology (Ob/Gyn)
  • Patient Volume: Approximately 20 patients/day
  • Work Style: Primarily working independently
  • Team: Candidate will work largely alone at the assigned location
  • Patient Consideration: Must be sensitive and compassionate toward patients who may be experiencing difficulty becoming pregnant.


Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated hands-on phlebotomy/venipuncture experience.
  • Ability to perform approximately 20 blood draws per day.
  • Strong patient-service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong attention to detail and specimen accuracy.
  • Ability to stand during blood-draw activities.
  • Ability to work Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM.
  • Ability to complete required onsite training.
  • Professional and empathetic approach when working with Ob/Gyn patients.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an Ob/Gyn, women's health, fertility, or similar specialty.
  • Experience in a high-volume patient service center or clinical laboratory environment.
  • Experience performing venipuncture using both straight needles and butterfly needles.
  • Experience working independently in a patient-facing setting.
  • Strong experience with patient identification, specimen labeling, and laboratory documentation.
