Research expertise at the School of Nursing and Health Studies spans the full translational continuum, from basic science through direct patient care and community-engaged research across the lifespan. Our faculty conduct funded research focused on individuals, families, and communities across three broad areas: clinical/biological research, health systems and outcomes research, and nursing education research.

Job Description

The School of Nursing and Health Studies at the University of Missouri - Kansas City seeks applications for a full-time, 12-month tenured/tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor to teach and conduct original, externally funded research within the Department of Nursing. The successful applicant will foster innovative research by mentoring students in the Department's Division of Research Education and promoting excellence in the development of scholarly expertise within their chosen areas of research. Opportunities exist for collaboration with interprofessional and multidisciplinary teams, as well as researchers at all stages of their careers, from students to established, externally funded investigators. Faculty are expected to disseminate their scholarship through peer-reviewed publications, competitive grant applications, and extramural funding. The successful applicant will also demonstrate the ability to teach across undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs within the Department's Divisions of Nursing Education, Clinical Practice, and Research Education.

Applicants offered this position are expected to:

  • Maintain a sustained, externally funded program of research and scholarship.
  • Mentor undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students in research and scholarly activities.
  • Provide service appropriate to their faculty rank.
  • Advance the mission and strategic priorities of the School of Nursing.

Regular on-campus presence is an essential function of this role; on-site, faculty position. Kansas City, MO (UMKC Health Sciences District). New hires are expected to relocate to the Kansas City metro area (or already reside within a reasonable commuting distance) by the start date and maintain residency that supports on-campus presence. UMKC will consider individualized reasonable accommodation requests consistent with the ADA and applicable law.

Qualifications

  • A terminal research doctoral degree (PhD, DNS, or equivalent) in nursing or another discipline relevant to the school's research mission.
  • Hold, or be eligible to obtain, an active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Missouri.
  • Evidence of an emerging, focused program of research and scholarship.
  • Demonstrated progress toward obtaining external research funding.
  • Record of high-quality teaching.
  • Record of service appropriate to the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience mentoring learners across the educational continuum in research and scholarly activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • National or international recognition in a focused area of research.
  • Current or sustained extramural research funding.
  • A program of research focus that aligns with the School's strategic priorities in innovative nursing education, clinical/biological research, or health systems and outcomes research, with a focus on improving the health of vulnerable, underserved, or urban populations.
  • Experience in interprofessional education and collaborative research.
  • Online teaching experience.
  • Experience mentoring junior faculty.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Compensation is commensurate with rank, qualifications, experience, and demonstrated or potential for externally funded research.
