Description
As a Health Center Assistant (HCA), you'll be an essential part of the clinical care team, supporting licensed nursing staff by providing direct client care, monitoring, documentation, and operational support in a fastpaced healthcare environment. This role is ideal for someone who is detailoriented, empathetic, and comfortable working closely with clients experiencing substance use disorders. What You'll Do
- Assist with client admissions, including checking vital signs, weighing clients, assisting with exams, and completing substance use checks.
- Safely conduct luggage searches and properly dispose of contraband items according to policy.
- Provide routine care and monitoring of clients throughout the detoxification process.
- Observe clients for changes in condition or behavior and promptly report concerns to licensed nursing staff.
- Accurately and thoroughly document client information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Facilitate timely delivery of client meals.
- Safely transport clients to and from medical appointments as needed.
- Collect prescribed medications from pharmacies and reconcile medication orders.
- Respond appropriately during medical or facility emergencies.
- Inventory medications and medical supplies and communicate ordering needs to the Nurse Manager.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and properly organized client charts.
- Follow all infection control and safety procedures, including proper hand hygiene, use of PPE, and disposal of soiled materials.
- Adhere to all confidentiality and privacy requirements, including HIPAA, HITECH, 42 CFR Part 2, and organizational policies.
- Support overall health center operations by maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant care environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support client care and department operations.
What You Bring
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Three to six months of experience in a medical or healthcare setting preferred.
- QMAP designation preferred.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately complete documentation.
- Ability to establish priorities, manage time effectively, and adapt quickly in a clinical environment.
- Personal maturity demonstrated through sound judgment and professional decisionmaking.
- Willingness to learn about substance use disorders, treatment approaches, and related medications.
- Ability to interact with clients and families with empathy, professionalism, and appropriate boundaries.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Physical health sufficient to navigate stairways, access all areas of the facility, assist with ambulation, and perform CPR.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in a clinical setting requiring prolonged standing, walking, and exposure to medical environments.
