U.S. Facilities, Inc., a consolidated facility management services company, is seeking a Licensed Journeyman Electrician to work on one of our projects in Norfolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Suffolk, and Virginia Beach, Virginia. This position will be responsible for planning repairs, additions, modifications, and preventive maintenance for electrical and mechanical systems and all equipment associated with the movable bridges. Provides leadership to the maintenance staff and ensures all necessary work is accomplished by planning, scheduling, and organizing work orders.

Responsibilities
- Leads, guides, and/or trains other electricians or maintenance personnel on applicable procedures and techniques.
- Installs and monitors the performance of electrical and mechanical equipment for hazards, adjustments, or replacement as directed.
- Repairs, installs, replaces, and tests electrical and mechanical equipment using appropriate tools and test instruments.
- Plans electrical secondary system additions or modifications.
- May perform work of lower-level electricians or maintenance mechanics
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Reads and updates electrical and mechanical panel schedules.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned, including mechanical and electrical tasks
May be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth above to address business needs and changing business practices.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of secondary electrical systems including planning additions or modifications on secondary circuits.
- Ability to use appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment to repair, install, replace, and test electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances rated at 1,000 volts or less.
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the trade.
- Ability to diagnose and repair electrical controls, industrial motor control centers, and programmable logic controllers for secondary systems at 1000 volts or less.
- Ability to lead and train staff and/or students.
- Ability to read commercial electrical blueprints and apply NEC through the full range of commercial and industrial maintenance and construction work.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Ability to install and maintain motors, welding equipment, lighting fixtures, generators, circuit breakers, and transformers as appropriate to the position.
- Ability to isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment.
- Troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions in secondary (1000-volt) circuits and systems, including cutouts, switchgear, and transformers; b) Isolating faults in the 1000-volt distribution system and replacing cable runs; c) Operating all 1000-volt controls and switchgear, including repairing and replacing them; d) Leading, guiding, and/or training other electricians in applicable procedures and techniques.
Education/Training
- High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the specified duties and responsibilities. A completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that exceeds the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Licenses, Certifications, Requirements
- Must have a valid Virginia Electrical Journeyman's License (verified in DPOR).
- CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within 6 months of the date of hire.
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- The successful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
- Possession of a valid driver's license is a requirement for this job.
Working Conditions
- Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work, including heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 50 pounds.
- The work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
- Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
Compensation
$28.00-$32.00
