Job Summary

The Stationary Engineer is responsible for operating, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting high-pressure boilers and associated powerhouse equipment to support safe, reliable, and continuous facility operations. This role supports a 24/7 powerhouse environment and requires hands-on experience with steam systems, boilers, pumps, generators, compressors, HVAC and building management systems, water treatment systems, and industrial electrical distribution equipment. The Stationary Engineer also performs preventive maintenance, maintains required records, and provides technical guidance to junior staff.

Job Responsibilities



  • Operate and maintain high-pressure water-tube and fire-tube boilers.
  • Monitor boiler feed-water systems, pumps, condensate tanks, and chemical injection systems.
  • Perform daily boiler-water testing and conductivity blowdowns.
  • Monitor and maintain water softener and fuel systems.
  • Operate and maintain air compressors and associated dryer systems.
  • Monitor facility Building Management Systems (BMS), heating systems, and air-conditioning systems.
  • Operate and monitor diesel emergency generators and facility switchgear.
  • Conduct monthly emergency generator testing and maintain required records.
  • Monitor facility heating loops, potable-water pump stations, and water-storage towers.
  • Monitor and maintain outbuilding boilers and heating equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain 13,200-volt, three-phase electrical distribution systems.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and troubleshoot powerhouse and facility equipment.
  • Maintain accurate operational and maintenance records.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff as needed.
  • Respond to emergency situations and support safe facility operations.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures and operational requirements.


Job Requirements



  • Hands-on experience operating and maintaining high-pressure boilers and powerhouse equipment.
  • Strong experience with steam systems, boiler systems, pumps, generators, and compressors.
  • Experience with HVAC and Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Experience with industrial electrical equipment and electrical distribution systems.
  • Ability to perform boiler-water testing, conductivity blowdowns, and related water treatment activities.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on industrial equipment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate operational and maintenance records.
  • Strong mechanical and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and provide technical guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Ability to work safely in a 24/7 industrial powerhouse environment.
  • Ability to successfully complete a required background check.
  • Ability to enter an active correctional facility during emergency situations when required.


Work Experience



  • Prior experience as a Stationary Engineer, Operating Engineer, Boiler Operator, or similar powerhouse professional strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a high-pressure boiler or 24/7 powerhouse environment strongly preferred.
  • Experience in hospitals, universities, correctional facilities, manufacturing plants, central utility plants, or similar industrial environments is highly relevant.
