Job Summary

The Traveling Lead Audio Visual Technician is responsible for leading crews and performing hands-on installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of audio visual systems for large-scale commercial and government integration projects nationwide. This role requires extensive commercial AV installation experience, strong knowledge of Crestron and Extron control systems, AV commissioning expertise, and the ability to effectively coordinate field teams and project activities. The technician will install and configure AV equipment, low-voltage cabling, equipment racks, displays, projectors, speakers, and related infrastructure while maintaining established safety and quality standards. Extensive nationwide travel is required based on project and operational needs.

Job Responsibilities




  • Lead field teams in the successful completion of large-scale commercial AV installation projects.



  • Install and configure Crestron and Extron audio visual control systems.



  • Install projectors, displays, speakers, amplifiers, wireless microphones, sound masking systems, mounts, and related AV equipment.



  • Upload Crestron, Extron, and DSP code and perform necessary field-level configuration changes.



  • Commission, test, and verify AV systems for proper operation.



  • Install and terminate low-voltage AV cabling, including 18/2, coaxial, CAT5e, and CAT6 cabling.



  • Terminate RG6, HD-SDI, SDI, XLR, and RCA connections.



  • Route, dress, label, and manage cabling between IT closets, AV equipment racks, displays, projectors, speakers, and other device locations.



  • Install cable pathways, including J-hooks and D-rings.



  • Build, wire, dress, and organize AV equipment racks.



  • Troubleshoot audio, video, control system, cabling, and equipment issues.



  • Read, interpret, and follow project blueprints, drawings, and installation documentation.



  • Install AV mounts and hardware on various wall and ceiling types.



  • Coordinate with general contractors, project stakeholders, and field personnel regarding installation activities.



  • Conduct jobsite safety meetings and enforce applicable safety procedures.



  • Identify and order materials required to support project completion.



  • Forecast labor requirements based on project scope, schedules, and field conditions.



  • Document field changes and submit change order information to the Project Manager.



  • Maintain proper PPE and a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.



  • Follow OSHA requirements and established workplace safety procedures.




Job Requirements




  • 5+ years of commercial audio visual installation experience.



  • Previous experience leading AV installation crews on large-scale commercial projects.



  • Experience with Crestron and/or Extron control systems.



  • Hands-on AV system commissioning experience.



  • Experience coordinating with general contractors, project stakeholders, and field teams.



  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.



  • Ability to read and interpret AV blueprints, drawings, and project documentation.



  • Working knowledge of commercial AV equipment, low-voltage cabling, termination methods, equipment racks, and cable management.



  • Active OSHA 10 certification preferred.



  • Scissor lift certification preferred.



  • AVIXA CTS certification preferred.



  • Ability to work from ladders and scissor lifts and in confined spaces.



  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move materials or equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.



  • Ability to stand and work on feet for the duration of the shift.



  • Ability to travel extensively nationwide based on project requirements.



  • Ability to provide and use basic hand tools, including a multi-bit screwdriver, tape measure, snips, needle-nose pliers, channel-lock pliers, RG6 cable stripper, coaxial cable crimper, punch-down tool, flashlight, tool pouch, gloves, and steel-toe or composite-toe work boots.

  • This is a traveling position supporting projects at various locations nationwide.



  • Candidates may be nationally located and must be available for extensive travel based on project assignments.



  • Initial project assignments may include work in the Atlanta region.
