Job Summary

The Structured Cabling Technician II is responsible for installing, terminating, routing, and managing structured cabling systems for large-scale commercial and government infrastructure projects. This role supports CAT5e and CAT6 installations, cable pathways, wireless access points, and MDF/IDF buildouts while following project specifications, blueprints, safety protocols, and industry standards. The position requires hands-on commercial low-voltage experience, strong attention to cable management and workmanship, and the ability to work effectively in active construction environments. Candidates must be flexible to work overtime and night shifts as project needs require.

Job Responsibilities




  • Install CAT5e and CAT6 structured cabling infrastructure.



  • Dress and route cables into IT closets, modular furniture, and work area outlets.



  • Install cable pathways, including J-hooks, D-rings, cable trays, and ladder racks.



  • Perform cable management, including proper dressing and labeling.



  • Terminate cables at patch panels, jacks, keystones, RJ-45 connectors, and modular plugs.



  • Install wireless access points (WAPs).



  • Build and support MDF and IDF environments, including data racks, ladder racks, cable trays, and sleeves.



  • Read, interpret, and follow project blueprints and installation specifications.



  • Communicate professionally and effectively with colleagues and management.



  • Follow established safety guidelines and protocols, including proper PPE use, jobsite cleanup, and OSHA requirements.




Job Requirements




  • 2+ years of commercial structured cabling, low-voltage, or data cable installation experience.



  • Commercial construction or low-voltage background.



  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.



  • BICSI certification, Level 1 or higher, preferred.



  • Active OSHA 10 certification preferred.



  • Scissor lift certification preferred.



  • Ability to work safely from ladders and scissor lifts and in confined spaces.



  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move materials weighing up to 75 pounds.



  • Ability to stand and work on your feet for the duration of the shift.



  • Ability to provide and use basic hand tools, including a multi-bit screwdriver, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, needle-nose pliers, channel-lock pliers, cable stripper, punch-down tool, modular plug crimper, flashlight, tool pouch, gloves, and steel-toe or composite-toe work boots.
