Nondestructive Evaluation Engineer Level IV (West Bethesda, MD)

Position Summary:

The Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Engineer Level IV provides senior-level technical expertise supporting advanced inspection, testing, and analysis of naval systems, components, and materials. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and validating complex nondestructive evaluation methods to ensure structural integrity, reliability, and compliance with Navy standards and mission requirements.

The Level IV engineer serves as a subject-matter expert, leading technical projects, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating closely with program managers, quality teams, and Navy stakeholders. Responsibilities include designing inspection protocols, interpreting highly complex data, troubleshooting material anomalies, and recommending corrective actions. The engineer also contributes to technology insertion initiatives, continuous improvement efforts, and the development of innovative NDE capabilities that support fleet readiness, lifecycle sustainment, and overall mission effectiveness.


Clearance Required:

  • Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a DoD secret security clearance


Required Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • BS degree in an Engineering Discipline, Physics, or Mathematics from an ABET accredited university
  • Knowledge of Navy and commercial nondestructive testing & evaluation (NDT&E) specifications
  • 5 years minimum experience with engineering/research design processes in the area of experimental design and trade-off studies


Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • NDT certifications
  • Familiarity with probability of detection (POD) methodologies


Physical Demands and Expectations:

  • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing; occasionally prolonged sitting.
  • Ability to speak, read, hear and write, without assistance.
