Job Summary

Assist in the development of software applications; and contribute to other research activities within the University of California pavement research center (UCPRC). This position supports the center's engineers, scientists, and other professionals who engage in cutting-edge research supported by Caltrans, Cal EPA, FAA, FWHA, and other industry and governmental sponsors. Specifically, the position assists with plans and designs, develops, modifies, debugs, deploys, and evaluates complex software for the University of California Pavement Research Center. Under general supervision, the incumbent works to enhance the web-based user interface of several software applications, including, but not limited to, user interface testing and fixing, working with other staff to add new forms and features, and assisting with other coding tasks.

Job activities will include testing and development of existing web-based tools, working independently and with a small team of other developers. Applications are both internal- and user-facing and include pavement design and analysis tools; data processing and storage for results from laboratory and field; and, management tools to support environmental, cost, and other engineering decision-making.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • no Minimum Education required.
  • 1+ years of software development experience in TypeScript/JavaScript.
  • 1+ years of experience with developing web-based user interfaces in HTML/CSS.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining React and Next.js applications.
  • Experience developing computer programs in industry-standard programming environments, with source control via applications such as GitHub
  • Experience working with relational databases and SQL
  • Interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals to secure and/or provide information to clarify situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with containers, docker, and/or Kubernetes.
  • Experience with user-interface design.

Department Overview

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering is a large academic department in the College of Engineering and provides instruction and research in five specialty areas of engineering. The Department has 40 faculty, 3 adjunct professors, 4 professional research engineers, 25 project scientists and technical staff, and 11 administrative staff. The Department has one of the largest undergraduate and graduate programs in the college with approximately 520 undergraduates and 240 graduate students enrolled. The Department has an annual budget of ~$15M (instructional and research) with 400+ active accounts and an eclectic research enterprise externally funded by federal, state, and private sponsors and individual/corporate donors.

University of California pavement research center (UCPRC) is part of the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department. UCPRC is a large research center with various personnel, including 2 faculty, 1 admin staff, research engineers, several r&d engineers, project scientists, graduate and undergraduate students.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
