Why this Role Matters

The Mortgage Loan Officer (MLO) plays a critical role in driving mortgage loan growth for Workers Credit Union by developing and managing relationships with referral partners, including realtors, business partners, past borrowers, and internal team members. As part of a Senior Mortgage Loan Officer's team, the MLO supports the organization's lending goals through exceptional member service and business development efforts. This role is instrumental in expanding Workers' mortgage portfolio by actively engaging with the community, building a strong referral network, and identifying new lending opportunities through networking events and outreach activities both within and outside of the credit union.

What You'll Contribute

Loan Application Management

  • Handle mortgage requests that originate through their individual online channel or initiate through the general WCU online channel and are assigned to the MLO.
  • Counsel borrowers and explain the types and programs available at Workers. Help borrowers determine the product that meets their needs. Employee must keep themselves up to date on all products available to the membership.
  • Complete home loan applications to include first mortgages, fixed home equity loans and home equity line of credit should they come from the individual's referral source.
  • Meet with potential borrowers (by phone, online or in person) to prequalify them for first mortgage financing; or to help with refinancing first mortgages.
  • Request and obtain all necessary documentation from the borrowers and submit the application in a timely manner.
  • Complete applications can come through the online portal and need to be reviewed for accuracy.
  • Incomplete applications may come through the online portal as well, these need to be reviewed and completed in coordination with the borrower/member.

Business Development & Networking:

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to achieve growth targets.
  • Develop strategic partnerships to enhance the credit union's visibility and reach within the community.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activities to identify potential growth areas.
  • Attends public functions including but not limited to Board of Realtor meetings, Chamber of Commerce meetings, open houses and other functions and meetings related to banking and mortgage lending.
  • Attend home mortgage functions such as home shows and exhibits. Promote all Workers products and services offered.

Goal Achievement:

  • Achieve specific goals for loan growth.
  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to meet or exceed these goals.
  • Track and report on progress towards goals, providing regular updates to management.

Continuous Learning & Compliance

  • Learn and maintain all the application, underwriting and disclosure requirements for Workers' mortgage programs. Follow all procedures for taking an application. Stay current with changes in underwriting, program and regulations on mortgage products.

Other Duties:

  • Adhere to all WCU policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Participates in department and/or organizational projects as directed.
  • Performs other tasks or functions as required, requested, necessary or prudent from time to time.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all member and credit union information and data.
  • Regularly demonstrates behaviors as defined by the credit union's Fundamentals, which are part of the Workers Way culture program.

What You'll Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three years mortgage related experience; excellent sales abilities; knowledge of all types of residential mortgage loans
  • Must or will be registered with the National Mortgage Licensing System ("NMLS") and maintain active status and accurate registration information on file. Provides changes to any individual information (such as an address or name change) as they occur directly into the NMLS system within 20 days of such change.
  • Excellent sales abilities; knowledge of all types of residential mortgage loans; thorough knowledge of loan policy; thorough knowledge of all types of loans including FNMA, special products and programs, FHA-VA and Non Conforming Jumbo Loans;
  • Strong mathematical abilities.

How You'll Work

Hybrid Work Environment: This position offers a hybrid work environment, combining remote work with regular on-site days at the Littleton Headquarters. This work environment is subject to change based on business needs.

Compensation

Pay Grade: 10

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay Grade Range: $15 per hour + Commission

Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted pay grade range based on factors such as relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, licensure requirements and/or skill level, and will be finalized at the time of offer.
