The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for driving advanced manufacturing capabilities, optimizing production processes, and leading complex engineering initiatives that improve quality, throughput, and cost efficiency. This role serves as a technical expert and cross-functional leader, supporting new product introduction (NPI), continuous improvement, and long-term manufacturing strategy.

As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the design, development, and optimization of manufacturing processes, tooling, and equipment for high-volume and/or high-complexity production environments.
  • Owning process capability (Cp/Cpk), yield improvement, and defect reduction initiatives using structured problem-solving methodologies (DMAIC, 8D, PFMEA).
  • Partnering with R&D, Quality, and Operations to support NPI, including DFM/DFA reviews, process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), and production ramp readiness.
  • Developing and maintaining detailed work instructions, process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, control plans, and standard operating procedures.
  • Evaluating and implementing automation, robotics, and advanced manufacturing technologies to improve efficiency and reduce labor content.
  • Leading root-cause investigations and corrective actions for production issues, equipment failures, and quality escapes.
  • Managing capital equipment projects from concept through installation, qualification, and handoff to operations.
  • Analyzing production data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities; driving measurable results.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards (ISO 9001, AS9100, FDA, or industry-specific requirements).

Fuel your passion

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • Have 7+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or production engineering roles.
  • Have proven expertise in process development, statistical analysis, and manufacturing optimization.
  • Have strong proficiency with CAD (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar) and manufacturing documentation tools.
  • Have hands-on experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, SPC, and structured problem-solving.
  • Have demonstrated success leading cross-functional projects and implementing sustainable improvements.
  • Have experience with automation, robotics, CNC machining, injection molding, electronics assembly, or other relevant manufacturing processes (customize as needed).
  • Have excellent communication, project management, and technical writing skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have a Master's degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Have Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Have experience in regulated industries (Aerospace, Medical Device, Automotive, Defense).
  • Have familiarity with ERP/MES systems and digital manufacturing tools.
  • Have experience managing capital budgets and vendor relationships.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to spend time on the production floor interacting with equipment, operators, and processes.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs and use of PPE as required.
  • Some travel may be required for supplier visits, equipment acceptance, or training.

The annual pay scale for this position is between $83,630.00 - $155,350.00.

Candidates for this role (office-based/ hybrid/ remote) must be located in or near the locations displayed above. The pay range/scale displayed above represents Baker Hughes' good faith estimate of the minimum and maximum for this position at the time of this posting and applies to the possible locations for this position. Baker Hughes will issue a non-bias competitive offer; the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hires, full-time salaries in some U.S. locations, not including equity or benefits. Where an applicant will ultimately fall within the pay range/scale depends on a variety of factors, including, for example, geographic work location, skillset, qualifications, internal pay alignment, level of experience, and demonstrated performance over time. Please keep in mind that the range stated above is the full base salary range for the role and does not include other forms of compensation. This position is eligible for our comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which can be found here, and is further eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonuses subject to the terms of the applicable benefit plans or policies.
