Custodial Worker

Chicago Department of Water Management

Bureau of Water Supply

Number of Positions: 1

(Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

Starting Salary: $19.75 p/h

These positions are open to the general public and to all current city employees covered under the terms of the City's collective bargaining agreement with THE PUBLIC SERVICE EMPLOYEES UNION INTERNATIONAL LOCAL 73, BARGAINING UNIT 45. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL RESULT IN A REJECTED BID APPLICATION

Under supervision, perform cleaning and custodial duties in the maintenance of building interiors of water production facilities at various locations throughout the Department of Water Management, including the treatment plants, pumping stations, and other offsite offices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Cleans restrooms, disinfecting all restroom surfaces and fixtures using chemical solutions, mopping floors, cleaning toilets, removing trash, and replenishing restroom supplies

* Cleans walls, inside of windows and other glass surfaces, partitions and doors in facilities using various cleaning solutions, wash towels, sponges and other cleaning products

* Uses appropriate tools such as scrub mops, hand sweepers, and mop buckets to clean non-carpeted floor areas such as lobbies, stairways and corridors; uses heavy-duty powered scrubbers and polishers to strip, wax and buff floors

* Operates vacuum cleaners and shampoo equipment and solvents to vacuum and chemically clean carpeted areas in office areas of facilities

* Removes litter, debris and fluids from building floors and vestibules in response to requests for cleaning up during the day

* Empties trash and recycling containers, replaces liners, discards trash in compactor and operates refuse compactors

* Wipes and cleans tabletops, chairs and office furniture; wipes down stainless steel such as water fountains, kiosks and information booths; cleans public seating areas

* Cleans and disinfects handrails in staircases

Hours: 0600-1430 Hrs.

Selection Requirements:

This is a non-interview title and testing is not required. Bidders who APPLY CORRECTLY will be selected in seniority order according to the collective bargaining agreement. Non-Bidders who APPLY CORRECTLY will be hired in lottery/random order.

Department of Human Resources staff will review applications after the final posting date. Staff will follow all required Employment/Hiring Plan provisions, federal, state, and local laws, and Collective Bargaining Agreements when applicable.
