Job Summary

The Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) Engineer is responsible for the setup, integration, maintenance, and validation of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test systems used to support the development and verification of power electronics, energy storage, and control systems. This role partners closely with controls, firmware, systems, and hardware engineering teams to develop HIL models, configure test environments, automate test execution, and support product verification throughout the development lifecycle. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with HIL platforms, hardware and software integration, and test automation while demonstrating strong troubleshooting, analytical, and collaboration skills.

Job Responsibilities



  • Configure, integrate, maintain, and troubleshoot Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test systems.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain HIL models to support system-level testing and product verification.
  • Configure and maintain HIL test environments for power electronics, energy storage, and control systems.
  • Develop and execute automated test scripts to improve test coverage and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with controls, firmware, systems, and hardware engineering teams to define and implement verification strategies.
  • Perform hardware and software integration activities to ensure reliable operation of HIL systems.
  • Analyze test results, identify issues, and support root cause investigations.
  • Document test procedures, system configurations, validation results, and engineering findings.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to test automation, validation processes, and HIL infrastructure.
  • Assist with the installation, calibration, and maintenance of HIL equipment and associated hardware.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, quality requirements, and safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements



  • 3+ years of experience working with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, system validation, or a related engineering role.
  • Hands-on experience with HIL platforms, such as OPAL-RT or similar real-time simulation systems.
  • Experience integrating hardware and software components within HIL environments.
  • Experience developing automated test scripts using Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar programming tools.
  • Strong understanding of power electronics, control systems, and embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, Modbus, or similar industrial interfaces.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional engineering environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering documentation tools.


Education



  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
