ROLE OVERVIEW

We are looking for a senior software engineer who has built and shipped complex, high-reliability systems and wants to spend the next stage of their career applying AI to real engineering products.

Our team builds AI-powered features into Keysight's digital measurement instruments, including sampling and real-time oscilloscopes, BERTs, and AWGs. We are not a research group. We partner with the product teams that own those roadmaps, and everything we build is aimed at shipping into instruments that engineers depend on to design and validate hardware.

You do not need prior AI experience or test and measurement experience to be a strong fit. We care most about senior engineering judgment: designing systems that are correct, testable, and maintainable, working through ambiguous problems, and delivering production software. We will invest in teaching you the AI side (agentic systems, retrieval-augmented generation, tool calling, evaluation of non-deterministic behavior) and the measurement domain, working alongside our Solutions Architect and domain experts.

This role may be a good fit if you:

• Have spent years building embedded, real-time, signal-processing, or mission-critical software, for example in aerospace, defense, space, telecom, medical, or industrial systems, and want to move into applied AI without starting over.
• Want to work on commercial products with fast feedback from customers and no security clearance requirement.
• Live in or want to live in the Colorado Springs area and prefer working on-site with your team.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• • Design, build, and ship production software that combines AI components with high-performance instrument software.
  • Partner with the Solutions Architect to shape and review the architecture of AI features, including agent roles, tool calls, memory, and reasoning loops, and own the implementation of major components.
  • Bring senior engineering discipline to AI work: define how features are tested and evaluated, how failures are handled, and how results are traced and explained to users.
  • Implement reliable, secure data flows from instrument data through preprocessing, model inference, and post-processing.
  • Serve as a senior member of the team: help plan and sequence work, review code and designs, and mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Work with Product Management, QA, and validation teams to turn measurement requirements into features that are reliable, explainable, and auditable.
  • Help evaluate emerging AI technologies and decide which ones belong in our products.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead engineering role.
  • Proven mastery of one or more of C++, C#, or Python.
  • Strong foundation in software design, system architecture, and performance optimization for complex multi-threaded or real-time systems.
  • Track record of delivering and supporting software in production or fielded systems.
  • Experience with Git, code review, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Strong interest in learning and applying AI techniques, and evidence that you pick up new technologies quickly.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, and the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to engineers and non-engineers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in the following is not required, but preferred:

• • Hands-on exposure to AI or LLM-based development, including prompt engineering, RAG, tool or function calling, or agentic frameworks such as LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, or Semantic Kernel. Personal or side projects count.
  • Experience with test and measurement instruments such as oscilloscopes, BERTs, or AWGs, either building software for them or using them.
  • Background in signal processing, embedded systems, FPGA data pipelines, or hardware/software integration.
  • Experience with verification, validation, or safety-critical development processes.
  • Experience deploying models or compute-heavy software on edge or embedded platforms.
  • Experience with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket) and agile development.

The level of role will be based on applicable experience, education and skills; Most offers will be between the minimum and the midpoint of the Salary Range listed below.

Colorado Pay Range MIN 132,450.00 -MID $176,600.00 - MAX $220,750.00
