MU Research Reactor

Job Description

The Facility Coordinator supports the mission of the MU Research Reactor (MURR) by coordinating and optimizing the use of facilities, operational spaces, and non-radioactive items stored onsite. This position focuses on planning, coordination, documentation, and space impact awareness rather than execution of procurement or surplus property transactions. The role works collaboratively with reactor operations, facilities staff, procurement, surplus property, and compliance personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant facility use. This position will also work closely with other Administrative Support Staff to support MURR Leadership; and report directly to the Associate Director - Facility Operations.
Essential Job Functions
* Coordinate scheduling and utilization of laboratories, support spaces, and shared operational areas
* Maintain facility utilization schedules supporting reactor operations, maintenance activities, outages, and special projects
* Track and document facility utilization to support operational planning, inspections, audits, and regulatory reviews
* Coordinate organization and placement of non-radioactive equipment, materials, and items stored onsite to support effective space use
* Maintain high-level awareness of stored items and space impacts without acting as a purchasing agent or inventory owner
* Coordinate surplus identification, staging, and documentation in collaboration with University Surplus Property and Procurement offices
* Ensure stored items and space usage comply with applicable safety, security, and regulatory requirements
* Assist with outage and maintenance planning by aligning space availability with operational needs
* Support Facility Operations by providing general administrative support as needed. Support may include, but is not limited to, scheduling meetings, booking travel, backup support to MURR Front Desk and tracking action items from meetings.
* This position is not responsible for the handling, tracking, storage, or management of radioactive materials
* Partner with the Work Control team to help assess, assign, and oversee work requests.
* Perform other duties as assigned

Shift

Monday - Friday, 8AM - 5PM

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working in a highly regulated environment such as nuclear, laboratory, healthcare, or manufacturing settings
* Familiarity with facilities, asset tracking, or space management systems
* Knowledge of safety, security, and compliance requirements for controlled facilities
* Experience coordinating facilities, space utilization, storage, or operational support in an industrial, research, or regulated environment
* Demonstrated ability to coordinate across departments without direct purchasing or surplus authority
* Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $23.00 - $32.00 per hour

Grade: GGS 008
