The Counsel, Marketing will provide legal support for the marketing teams at Dine Brands, including review and clearance of marketing materials, drafting and negotiating commercial agreements and advising cross-functional business teams on regulatory considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve marketing, communications and public relations collateral, including omnichannel marketing campaigns, press releases, menus, product claims and labeling, events and activations, sweepstakes, contestsand other public-facing content
  • Draft, review and negotiate marketing-related agreements, including advertising and creative agencies, sponsorships, talent and influencers, promotional licensing, merchandising and co-promotion, ad placements and insertion orders
  • Support in-house production teams on publicity releases, personality rights, production services, music licensing, usage rights and network/platform compliance
  • Advise cross-functional teams on regulatory considerations, including FDA guidelines, the FTC Endorsement Guidelines, federal and state consumer protection laws and regulations, CAN-SPAM, TCPA and other marketing-related compliance issues
  • Provide guidance on intellectual property matters and rights management, including clearance and origination of trademarks in collaboration with outside counsel, supervision of trademark paralegal team and development of strategies for enforcing rights for trade secrets, copyrights, trademarks and service marks

Skills & Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience practicing as an attorney
  • J.D. from an accredited top tier law school
  • Experience advising marketing, advertising, communications, culinary and other related business teams
  • Excellent transactional contract drafting and negotiating skills and great attention to detail
  • Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills required
  • Ability to handle a large volume and variety of matters
  • Track record of initiative, problem solving, ownership of projects, and intellectual curiosity
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to influence business clients in a calm and professional demeanor
  • Excellent business judgment and experience in providing strategic and practical advice to business functions at all levels
  • Self-starter who is able to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Previous in-house experience is preferred
  • Restaurant or hospitality industry experience is helpful
  • Target base salary 180-195k depending on experience
