The BBSI HR Generalist (Payroll & Benefits) plays a critical role in ensuring employees are paid accurately, on time, and in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. This position serves as the payroll specialist while also supporting employee benefits administration. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, enjoys solving problems, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where accuracy and exceptional customer service are essential.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Payroll Administration (Approximately 70%)

  • Process weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly payrolls accurately and on schedule.
  • Review and audit employee earnings, deductions, taxes, and reimbursements.
  • Ensure client compliance with wage and hour laws, overtime regulations, and payroll tax requirements.
  • Process employee changes, terminations, garnishments, levies, bonuses, commissions, and special payroll adjustments.
  • Coordinate payroll tax reporting and year-end activities, including W-2 processing.
  • Respond promptly to client payroll questions and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure confidentiality and data integrity.
  • Assist client's accounting/bookkeeping with payroll reconciliations and reporting.

Benefits Administration (Approximately 30%)

  • Serve as a point of contact for employee benefit enrollment questions.
  • Assist employees with enrollment through HRIS systems.
  • Ensure enrollments are complete and submitted on time.
  • Support HR & Benefits team during the entire Open Enrollment process.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This position reports to the Area Manager and works in partnership with other positions within the business unit and branch.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to complete high-volume workload, meet critical deadlines and work through constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate level knowledge of all MS Office applications
  • Confidence working with multiple systems and programs simultaneously
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with valid automobile insurance meeting BBSI criteria
  • Willing to travel via automobile roughly 30% of time - primarily local, with some overnight possible.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
  • High school diploma required
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of HR and/or payroll related experience
  • Prior experience in payroll processing including strong knowledge of wage and hour laws in surrounding states.
  • Additional operations or business experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to write, develop and deliver documents and electronic communication to individuals and groups at all levels of an organization

Salary and Other Compensation:

The starting pay range for this position is $30.75-$36.00 per hour. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography, skills, education, experience, certifications and other qualifications of the candidate.

This position is also eligible for incentive pay in accordance with the terms of the Company's plan.

Paid Time Off: 40 hours of paid sick leave annually (additional sick/front loading/accrual, if any, based on state or regional requirements); vacation accrues up to 80 hours in the first year, up to 120 hours in years 2-4, and up to 160 hours in the fifth year; 6 paid holidays annually, 4 paid volunteer days annually.
