POSITION SUMMARY

Performs baseball coaching and management activities, including recruitment of student-athletes in a National Collegiate Athletic Association--Division III intercollegiate baseball program. Serve as liaison between Athletic Department and Admissions Department.

Essential Functions Statement(s)



  • Given that the College is a diocesan Catholic college, will carry out your functions of your position in support of the College's Catholic Identity, mission and in support of Church teachings.
  • Develops and implements a sound and effective baseball philosophy.
  • Participates in the identification, evaluation and recruitment of potential baseball student-athletes.
  • Prepares scouting reports and game plans.
  • Monitors student-athletes in classroom and on the field.
  • Monitors the academic progress of assigned baseball student-athletes in the program.
  • Coordinates the physical development of each student-athlete through appropriate condition, strength and practice sessions.
  • Remains accessible to the media, alumni, boosters and general public to publicize and promote the baseball program.
  • Advises and counsels student-athletes academically, athletically and socially.
  • Assigned areas of the baseball budget.
  • May recommend the purchase of new baseball equipment, supplies and uniforms.
  • May represent the College at American Rivers Conference meetings.
  • Assists in the coordination of travel arrangements for road trips.
  • Attends Athletic department meetings.
  • Assist with field maintenance, including game preparation, day-to-day maintenance, and improvements.
  • Able to represent Athletic Department in communication with Admissions staff.
  • Supports the mission and vision of the College and respects the College's Catholic tradition.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university required in any field. Master's degree preferred.

Experience: One or two years of experience in athletics

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Other Requirements: Skilled in the use of a personal computer and Microsoft Office Suite. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of collegiate baseball. Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association--Division III and the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Association as they pertain to collegiate baseball. Demonstrated success in coaching baseball and recruiting quality student-athletes. Also, must be able to demonstrate knowledge of the techniques, fundamentals and drills associated with baseball. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superior, colleagues, student-athletes and subordinates. Ability to analyze strengths and weaknesses of the baseball program and develop problem-solving solutions. Possess high energy levels, strong work ethic, and a positive attitude. Good organizational and communication skills. Ability to represent the philosophy of Loras College to alumni, members of the Loras community, the media and prospective students.
