Job Summary

Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is hiring a Student Services Specialist (short-term). This position provides direct in-person and electronic student support services at the Welcome Center department. Support services include but are not limited to dynamic line management and customer services for enrollment services, general advisement support, processing, serve as campus information, and make resource referrals to students, and participate in welcome center sponsored programs, events, and activities.

Essential Functions

30% - Provides student and advisement customer support services to the welcome center areas, including advisor email inquiries, advising phone line and voicemail inquiries, self-service stations, and the support advisor appointment scheduling, cancellations, and follow-up. Prepares and delivers presentations at events/activities that support student success, such as new student orientations, degree information sessions, student groups/organizations, specialty population activities, graduation, and other services.

30% - Provides 1:1 and group academic advising and support services via in-person, phone, and online to support student progress and completion of degree programs. Provides guidance to campus resources on goal setting, degree and certificate options, transfer pathways, course selection, registration, academic progress, and satisfactory progress toward a certificate/degree using PeopleSoft and other technology. Connects students with additional support services and resources as needed. Assists with consortium agreements, graduation applications, data entry, unofficial transcript evaluation, and other processing/requests as needed.

30% Maintains service and process resource information and documents at the welcome centers, may be required to produce correspondence and shares as needed. Communicates with other student service departments and campus stakeholders for accurate information to support student success.

10% - Attends departmental meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities; performs other duties as assigned commensurate to the grade level of the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution, and two (2) years of full-time equivalent student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

OR

High school diploma/GED, and four (4) years of full-time equivalent student services or college teaching experience, or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience, as described above, sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

1. One (1) year of experience providing frontline student services in a higher education, enrollment services, admissions, financial aid, records, advising, or related student support environment.
2. One (1) year of experience assisting students through the enrollment process, including navigating college systems, interpreting policies and procedures, and connecting students to appropriate campus resources.

3. One (1) year of experience delivering customer service in a high-volume, fast-paced environment through multiple service channels, including in-person, phone, email, chat, and virtual platforms.

4. One (1) year of experience applying federal, state, institutional, and privacy regulations related to student services, including FERPA, residency determination, admissions, registration, and lawful presence requirements.

5. One (1) year of experience supporting diverse student populations and utilizing student-centered practices to promote access, persistence, retention, and completion.

6. One (1) year of experience managing multiple responsibilities, prioritizing competing deadlines, and maintaining accuracy while providing responsive service to students and stakeholders.

7. One year of full-time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two years.

Work hours are typically standard; some weekends and evenings may be required

May be required to view a computer monitor for a prolonged period of time
