The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Dell Medical School is seeking a Senior Data Analyst. This is a fixed-term, benefits-eligible position with a current end date of August 31, 2027, based on available funding.

Purpose

The Senior Data Analyst is a senior-level individual contributor position responsible for leading complex data analytics initiatives that drive strategic decision-making across clinical, operational, and financial domains. This role partners with leadership, clinical program directors, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact insights. The Senior Data Analyst serves as a subject matter expert in healthcare data, advanced analytics, and data visualization. This position manages strategic, company-wide projects, mentors junior analysts, consults staff to identify new reporting needs, and contributes to data governance, documentation, and innovation efforts.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Dell Medical School is seeking a Senior Data Analyst, Program Integration to support mental health programs and initiatives developed through the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium, with a focus on improving the quality and accessibility of mental health care for children and adolescents across Texas. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Operations, this position will play a key role in interpreting and analyzing complex data sets to provide valuable insights and inform strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analysis, data visualization techniques, understanding clinic program improvement and integration and the ability to effectively communicate findings to stakeholders at all levels of the organization. This position has an end date of 8/31/27, renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward program goals.

A flexible working arrangement agreement can be accommodated based upon the needs of the program and with supervisor approval. This position may require occasional work on-site for some of the scheduled work week. Remote work will require reliable internet access and a suitable, private workspace free from distractions.

Responsibilities

Strategic Data Analysis and Modeling

  • Partners with senior leadership, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to evaluate business needs, support strategic planning, identify opportunities, and resolve complex challenges.
  • Performs advanced analyses of data and system architectures; delivers expert consultation, interpretation, and presentation of insights related to complex data environments and system constraints.
  • Analyzes data; interprets results to identify significant differences and trends.
  • Leads the design and execution of advanced data driven models.
  • Translates complex business problems into analytical frameworks.
  • Synthesizes, processes, and analyzes large datasets to uncover actionable insights.
  • Presents findings to senior leadership and governance committees.

Data Visualization

  • Develops and maintains dashboards and scorecards.
  • Standardizes KPIs and reporting methodologies across programs to evaluate effectiveness, impact and improvement.
  • Ensures data visualizations are intuitive, accurate, and aligned with strategic goals.

Data Integration, Architecture and Standards

  • Oversees development and implementation of databases, data collection systems, and analytics strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality.
  • Leads integration of disparate data sources including EHR, claims, financial, and operational systems.
  • Assists in defining, developing, and implementing data standards and data quality measures.
  • Conceptualizes, creates, and maintains operational and research data models for visualization and statistical analysis.
  • Establishes and maintains standard work procedures governing the appropriate use of data.

Stakeholder Leadership and Consultation

  • Serves as a trusted advisor to clinical and administrative leaders.
  • Consults with internal and external customers, including faculty and staff, to identify user needs and clarify data requirements.
  • Provides guidance and interpretation of complex systems and data.
  • Facilitates data strategy sessions and requirements gathering workshops.
  • Builds consensus around data definitions and usage.

Mentorship, Documentation, and Innovation

  • Provides technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to data analysts and data management technicians, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Coordinates work activities, supports goal alignment, and monitors project progress to ensure timely and successful completion.
  • Contributes to onboarding, training, and professional development initiatives for team members. Provides guidance and coordination to data analysts, technicians, and student assistants. Documents data analysis efforts, including data sources, reporting specifications, tools used, and issue resolutions.
  • Evaluates and pilots emerging analytics tools and methodologies.
  • Researches and stays up-to-date on new technologies and data analysis trends.
  • Leads analytics communities of practice and training sessions.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Health Information Management, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field with at least 5 year(s) of experience in healthcare analytics/data science within complex organizational environments or a Master's Degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated experience leading analytics work, managing priorities, and influencing outcomes across cross-functional stakeholders is required.
  • Skilled in large scale data analysis, data processing and data technology.
  • Experience with advanced analytics tools, data visualizations, and cloud data environments
  • Relevant education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, leverage critical thinking skills, manage conflict, make decisions independently, and ability to solve problems.
  • High degree of sensitivity to stakeholder needs.
  • Excellent communication, tactical and strategic planning, and supervisory skills are required.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree in a quantitative or healthcare-related field with at least 7 year(s) of experience in a complex healthcare environment.

  • Proficiency with student support and case management tools, including TRAYT, and EMR including Athena/EPIC is desired.
  • Experience providing guidance or day-to-day coordination to junior staff or support roles.
  • Proficiency in REDCap database design, survey development, and data management.

Salary Range

$90,000+ depending on qualifications
