The purpose of this position is to function as a subject matter expert internally and externally as it pertains to successful implementation of flexible and/or stretchable film substrates in printed electronics applications. The successful candidate will be hands-on leading the design and management of trials and experiments using materials, equipment, and test methods to enable development of Covestro Specialty Films substrates and advise customers on successful implementation and use of its products in targeted applications.

Major Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Specialty Films technical and commercial staff to understand capabilities and limitations with respect to application and customer processing of Specialty Films products.
  • Directly manage the design, installation, and commissioning of new application development equipment and methods, in partnership with equipment manufacturers and other Specialty Films technical staff.
  • Manage the development of procedures for the safe and efficient operation of application development equipment within Covestro Specialty Films' South Deerfield location.
  • Work hands-on in Covestro application development lab spaces and at customers to ensure effective execution of trials and experiments
  • Drive Covestro Specialty Films' understanding and capabilities to proactively prepare solutions for customer requirements in targeted applications.
  • Maintain an organized environment for application development activities, including equipment, raw materials, and sample inventories.
  • Provide technical service and on-site technical support to Specialty Films customers as needed.
  • Serve as a global subject matter expert for sales, business development, and technical staff of Covestro locations in other regions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline with 6+ years of relevant professional experience; OR Master's degree in an engineering discipline with 4+ years of relevant professional experience; OR Ph.D. degree in an engineering discipline with 2+ years of relevant professional experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Electronics
  • Experience with screen printing of graphic inks on plastic films
  • Specific familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD
  • Specific familiarity with graphic design software such as Adobe Illustrator

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong verbal, written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to translate development activities into commercially viable technologies and products
  • Strong computer skills in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Thorough understanding of statistical methods in experimental design (DOE)
  • Familiar with DOE software such as JMP or Minitab
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence others
  • Experience with printed electronics, including but not limited to: screen printing conductive inks on plastic films, manual assembly (conductive adhesives, component attachment), circuit design.

Salary range: $110,998 - $206,080

This is a full-time role that includes competitive pay, annual bonus potential, generous paid time off, 401K with company match, retirement contribution, tuition reimbursement, parental leave and medical, dental and vision coverage (no waiting period).
