As an Ancillary Product Strategy Consultant, you'll help define what Customers buy beyond their ticket-and influence how Southwest grows revenue, evolves its products, and competes in the marketplace. You'll lead the strategy, development, and optimization of a portfolio of products including bags, boarding, seats, pets, and unaccompanied minor offerings, identifying opportunities to create value for both Customers and the business. From developing product roadmaps and gotomarket strategies to analyzing performance and shaping future investments, you'll play a key role in bringing new ideas to life. Working across Revenue Management, Finance, Digital, Marketing, Technology, and Operations, you'll translate insights into action and help deliver product experiences that strengthen Southwest's brand, delight Customers, and drive measurable business results. Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end product lifecycle - from strategy and design through go-to-market execution and performance optimization for air ancillary products (i.e. bags, boarding and seat products, and additional offering such as unaccompanied minors & pets)
- Develop and continuously refine the long-term vision, goals, and roadmap for the assigned product portfolio, ensuring alignment with company priorities and customer expectations
- Analyze market trends, competitive dynamics, and product performance data to surface opportunities, diagnose issues, and translate insights into actionable strategic recommendations
- Define the merchandising strategy, pricing approach, financial performance model, and KPIs for key product lines, tracking results and recommending improvements on an ongoing basis
- Build and advance business cases for new product initiatives and enhancements, ensuring decisions are grounded in data, sound reasoning, and clear return on investment
- Craft and execute go-to-market strategies for new and updated products, including positioning, pricing, messaging, and launch readiness across digital and operational channels
- Steer cross-functional teams through all phases of the product lifecycle, coordinating execution across Revenue Management, Finance, Digital, Analytics, Marketing, Technology, CX, and Ground Ops
- Influence diverse stakeholders and drive consensus on strategic priorities and tradeoffs, partnering with Finance on forecasting and revenue analysis to support performance goals
- Evaluate product performance against key metrics and operational feasibility, applying analytical modeling to validate hypotheses and deliver clear, prioritized recommendations to leadership
- Support ad-hoc research, analysis, and presentations for leadership and key stakeholders
- May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge and deep understanding of product strategy, lifecycle management, or how to create and sustain customer value
- Knowledge of analytical methods, financial modeling, and performance management frameworks used to evaluate and optimize product portfolios
- Skilled in collecting, analyzing, and visualizing complex data using tools such as Excel, SQL, Tableau, or Power BI
- Skilled in developing business cases and executive-level presentations that translate data into clear, actionable recommendations
- Ability to conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify trends, gaps, and strategic opportunities
- Ability to develop and execute product strategies that balance customer needs, financial objectives, and operational feasibility
- Skilled in influencing and driving consensus across diverse stakeholder groups and Senior Leadership without formal authority
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, delivering results with minimal oversight
Education
- Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
- Advanced level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
- Strategy development or evaluating performance against strategic goals
- Performance optimization for products, revenue, or profitability
- Presenting and communicating analysis regularly in a variety of audiences, including senior executives
- Partnering with diverse stakeholder groups to drive consensus
- Analyzing raw data to make conclusions and draw actionable insights
Physical Abilities
- Ability to perform work duties from [limited space workstation/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
- Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
- Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
- Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
Competitive market salary from $103,750 - $115,300 per year* depending on qualifications and experience, with opportunity for future pay increases based on performance and market movement. For eligible leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
