About the Job

MedStar Washington Hospital Center is seeking a full-time inpatient Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our nationally recognized Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Program. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside leading cardiologists specializing in advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, and heart transplantation within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary academic environment.

The APP will provide comprehensive inpatient management of patients with advanced cardiovascular disease, including acute and chronic heart failure, ventricular assist devices (VADs), heart transplant candidates and recipients, and patients requiring temporary mechanical circulatory support such as Impella, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). In collaboration with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and ancillary team members, the APP will play an integral role in delivering exceptional, evidence-based care to a complex and critically ill patient population.

As part of MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute, APPs are actively involved in innovative clinical programs, cutting-edge therapies, and research initiatives that help shape the future of advanced heart failure. This position provides a unique opportunity to contribute to advancements in advanced heart failure and transplant care while impacting patient outcomes at a national leader in cardiovascular services.

Qualifications

  • Board Certified Nurse Practitioner (ACNP, AGACNP, or FNP with acute care experience) or Physician Assistant
  • Current licensure in the District of Columbia (or eligibility for licensure)
  • Minimum of 2 years of acute care cardiology experience, preferably in advanced heart failure, transplant, mechanical circulatory support, or critical care cardiology

Schedule

  • Flexible scheduling options: four 10-hour shifts or three 12-hour shifts per week
  • Weekend coverage rotation approximately every six weeks
