These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations. |

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Health Safety Specialist
III for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). Principally responsible for performing the technical services, investigations, and visual inspections and/or for maintaining records for the University to assure that only sanctioned activities are carried out and that those activities are performed:
- In accordance with Federal, State & local requirements and University policies/procedures;
- Without adverse health effects on faculty, staff, students, visitors and community;
- In a manner that will protect the environment; and
- So that the University's resources are conserved and future liability is limited

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree plus two years of specialized and directly relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

| Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Scientific training in physical, chemical, or life sciences at the undergraduate level.
- The ability and willingness to pursue graduate education and/or training toward certification in health/safety profession.
- Must have the maturity and judgment to represent the department in interactions with the university community and to seek help from supervisor when needed.
- Excellent computer, interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills.

| Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience with working with IBC, IACUC, IRB, Laboratory Safety, and other relevant compliance committees.
- Knowledge of animal welfare requirements and AALAC.
- Knowledge of Clinical and Healthcare Safety requirements and Joint Commission (JCAHO)

| Equipment Utilized |
- Must be able to use understand applications and limitations of various sampling equipment. Must also be proficient in MS Word, MS Access, Excel, Outlook.

- Must able to lift up to 50 pounds, have a valid driver's license, pass a physical examination, and be able to wear a respirator.

Immunization Requirements
Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply.
