The Field EHS Manager is responsible for visible, onsite leadership of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) during construction, commissioning, and operational interface activities. This position centers on identifying hazards, leading risks, engaging contractors, and upholding focused execution so that all tasks are conducted safely, in compliance with regulations, and according to both company-wide and site-specific EHS standards.

Nature & Scope

Maintain a strong, consistent field presence, engaging directly with supervisors, makers, and contractors to influence safe behaviors and reinforce standards. Act as the primary EHS point of contact on project, supporting the Site Construction Manager / Field Construction Manager in all EHSrelated matters. Encourage an environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing information about hazards, near misses, and safety concerns, knowing they won't face any negative consequences.

Key Responsibilities:
  • EHS Managers will develop and implement Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) policies to ensure compliance with Air Products guidelines. local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and ISO standards.
  • EHS Managers shall support Risk Assessments, including job hazard analysis (JHA) and HAZID studies, to prioritize controls and implement corrective actions that reduce incident frequency and severity.
  • EHS Managers shall lead EHS Inspection program to ensure regular inspections and audits are being conducted and identifying potential hazards related to project scopes of work and establish corrective action plans to address project EHS discrepancies.
  • EHS Managers shall support Emergency Preparedness: including developing and coordinating emergency response plans, conducting drills, and ensuring employees are equipped to respond effectively to incidents such as fires, chemical spills, or natural disasters.
  • EHS Manager shall support EHS plans development and implementation: EHS Managers will develop and implement safety and environmental plans to ensure compliance with Air Products EHS guidelines and requirements.
Competency:
  • Strong solid understanding of federal, state, and local EHS regulations applicable to construction.
  • Capable to conduct and lead detailed incident investigations (root cause analysis, 5-Why, fault tree analysis), produce corrective action plans, track closures, and communicate lessons learned across operations to prevent recurrence.
  • Able to plan and implement scheduled EHS audits and inspections (internal, supplier, contractor, regulatory) including audit scopes, findings, corrective action follow-up, and KPI reporting to leadership.
  • Capable of developing and tracking EHS performance metrics and dashboards (TRIR, LTIR, near-miss reporting, lost time, leading indicators) to drive data-informed decisions and visible EHS performance improvements.
  • Experience Leading hazardous materials, COSHH/SDS programs, chemical inventory control, spill prevention, and response planning, and ensure safe storage, handling, and disposal practices.
  • Experience Overseeing emergency preparedness and response: develop site emergency response plans, conduct drills (fire, chemical release, active shooter), coordinate with local emergency services and maintain business continuity input.
  • Experience Leading industrial hygiene programs including air and noise monitoring, exposure assessments, PPE selection, and recommendations to meet permissible exposure limits and protect workforce health.
  • Experience coordinating environmental compliance programs: air emissions, wastewater, stormwater, waste management, permitting, and reporting; interact with regulators for inspections and permit renewals.
  • Experience coordinating and leading risk assessment programs.
  • Excellent technical and analytical abilities, capacity to handle several tasks and duties at once, and a talent for contributing optimally within a collaborative, team-focused environment.
  • Strong leadership skills, initiative, focus, engagement, and follow-through skills.
  • Excellent technical writing, speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Must have proven communication skills and can interact and efficiently connect with all levels of the organization.
  • Computer Skills: Must be able to demonstrate computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, as well as PC based programs.
Minimum Hiring Requirements:
  • EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) manager, shall have a combination of applicable field ESH experience with EHS certifications or formal education. Shall be able to demonstrate A proven foundation of EHS technical knowledge, leadership skills, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Possesses five years of specialized ESH management experience, complemented by a nationally recognized Safety Health and Environmental certification such as CHST, CSST, SMP, or an equivalent credential.
Safety and Compliance:
  • Support development of Project ESH plans and initiatives.
  • Analyze site-specific safety and health procedures for adequacy.
  • Ensure adequacy of personal protective equipment (PPE) selected for employee use, when required.
  • Ensure orientation of management and supervision concerning Safety Procedures, their responsibilities, and compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with all appropriate safety and health procedures through regular site inspection, documenting such recommendations to management and immediate action on imminent danger situations.
  • Ensures the Project and Contractor provide adequate investigation/analysis of incidents and accidents (non-injury and injury).
  • Ensures the Project and Contractor provide prompt and adequate treatment for injured Contractor employees.
  • Ensure preparation and submittal of required safety and health record keeping information.
  • Ensure documentation of required safety and health record keeping information (i.e., inspections, training, first aid logs, OSHA logs, etc.)
  • Provide safety evaluations of Contractors and their supervisors to management, as vital.
  • Initiate, and support lead, injury prevention campaigns.
  • Initiate, and support, safety recognition/incentive program.
  • Make sure toolbox meetings are held regularly and reviewed.
  • Ensure training for high-risk activities is conducted.
  • Ensure permitting process is followed.
  • Routinely Auditing of the project for compliance with Air Product EHS policies and standards.
  • Support Site Management in implementing and adhering to both Air Products and site-specific HSE programs.
