Responsible for the development, coordination, execution, and monitoring of clinical education for the Progressive Care Unit. Develops and implements department specific orientation programs and assists in hospital wide general orientation. Plans and implements on-going continuing education requirements for staff as well as education regarding changes in or additions to practice or procedure. Responsible for providing opportunities to staff for expanding professional development and designing evidenced based education that benefits the clinician and the organization. Collaborates with the quality department as well as other members of leadership to develop, implement, and monitor performance improvement activities. Coordinates and provides education in order to increase awareness and skill levels in order to facilitate positive patient outcomes, safety, and both employee and patient satisfaction at each opportunity throughout the facility. Responsible for the development and implementation of educational offerings for patients and families.

Provides direct patient care as needed. The Progressive Care Education Coordinator will be oriented to and trained in the Progressive Care Department in order to facilitate relationships with all staff members and to gain knowledge in the different areas and service lines.

The Progressive Care Education Coordinator continuously consults with staff, providers, the PCU Manager, the Director of Acute Care Nursing, the CNO, and other members of leadership on methods to meet and maintain regulations and standards related to patient care.



  • Monitors and evaluates the educational needs of the department, individual staff members, and patient population served and conducts surveys requesting feedback and follows through on requests for educational offerings.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors the department specific orientation program. Coordinates and evaluates progress in completing department orientation for each new employee.
  • Treats patients, staff, and families with respect and dignity, and routinely evaluates the effectiveness of educational programs offered.
  • Professionally and collaboratively develops dynamic education for staff, providers, patients, and families, and implements in a way that accommodates the need of the individual's learning style.
  • Ensures that education provided follows hospital policy and satisfies compliance requirements according to state and federal regulation.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors annual education competencies for the department.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally with the mission, vision, and strategic goals of KRMC in mind.
  • Responsible for maintaining expert level knowledge of patient care practices in applicable departments, and for providing direct patient care when needed.
  • Builds and fosters relationships with staff, providers, and other leaders in all departments of the organization.
  • Works collaboratively with other Education Coordinators in the facility and the Human Resources department to ensure that consistency is achieved regarding documentation and record keeping for educational requirements.
  • Monitors education compliance and completion and reports deficiencies to the respective department manager.
  • Acts as a leader of the department, supporting the manager and other members of leadership as a liaison with patients, physicians and employees to facilitate communication, increase satisfaction, and ultimately ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.
  • Develops and reviews policies and procedures as assigned. Provides education to staff regarding process and policy updates.
  • Gives routine performance feedback while educating staff, provides input to the department manager regarding staff progress on orientation and performance.
  • Participates in and fosters culture of teamwork and respect throughout the department, engaging effectively with all stakeholders, e.g. physicians, staff, outside contractors, and the people served.
  • Provides leadership and mentorship in the development of staff.
  • Initiates and supports problem-solving groups that proactively resolve issues within nursing services.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized, and function in stressful situations.


Education/Experience:



  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current license by the state of Nebraska as a registered nurse.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred or ADN and enrolled in a BSN program within six months of hire; Master's Degree in Nursing or other applicable field preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of acute care nursing experience is required; an additional two (2) years of experience in an education role or formal training in education preferred.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certification required (or within 90 days of hire).
  • PCCN certification preferred.
