THE POSITION

As a Security Officer 1 with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, you will play an important part in keeping the Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center safe and secure. You will assist residents, guide visitors, and respond to a variety of situations with confidence. This position provides steady, rewarding work that makes a real difference. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position protects residents, staff, visitors, and property by patrolling grounds, responding to concerns, and supporting safety procedures throughout the facility. As a Security Officer 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Patrol Duties: Check buildings, grounds, and parking areas to identify safety issues, trespassing, or rule violations
  • Building Security: Secure doors, monitor lighting, and ensure facility areas are properly locked after hours
  • Visitor Assistance: Answer calls, assist residents and guests, and prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas
  • Incident Response: Respond to emergencies, help locate missing residents, and work with police when needed
  • Search Procedures: Conduct searches of vehicles and personal property under suspicious circumstances
  • Reporting and Monitoring: Complete daily activity reports and monitor the camera system during assigned shifts

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part-time employment (20 hours per week)
  • Work hours will be determined between the following two schedules:
    • 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday and 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday
    • 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM on Friday and Saturday and 11:00 PM to 3:00 AM on Sunday
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirement:

  • You must be in possession of a valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle operator's license.

Additional Requirement:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willingness to work in Lackawanna County, PA
  • Work experience in the security field in the following areas: Patrolling grounds and buildings; checking for violations of fire and safety rules and regulations; checking locks and lights of buildings or offices; answering phone calls related to security concerns and emergencies; assisting and offering customer service to visitors and the public; approaching unauthorized persons to prevent loitering; assisting with police investigations; working with fire and safety panels; addressing alarms and resetting trouble codes; working with disaster and emergency preparedness plans; operating surveillance and security equipment and monitors

  • Work experience in a nursing-type facility searching for missing residents or assisting residents during an emergency.
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft programs at the basic level

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
