Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Industrial Hygienist/Industrial Safety Professional to work on our Occupational Safety Health team. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our MFC facility with every Friday off. At Idaho National Laboratory, you'll serve as the frontline expert in recognizing and controlling workplace health hazards across some of the nation's most complex nuclear operations environments. You'll conduct exposure assessments, investigate incidents, review work control documents, and develop corrective actions that protect Idaho National Laboratory's workforce-ensuring the scientists and engineers driving America's energy future work in a safe and compliant environment.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Apply a full and comprehensive understanding and application of industrial hygiene (IH) and industrial safety (IS) principles, theories, and concepts needed to support work activities.
  • While the primary focus of this role is industrial hygiene, the successful candidate will also be expected to obtain internal qualifications and take on responsibilities related to industrial safety as part of their core duties.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement programs, policies, and procedures associated with the recognition, measurement, evaluation, and control of chemical, physical, and biological health hazards.
  • Perform IH Exposure Assessments (EAs) and sample activities to characterize employee exposures to hazardous agents. Provide follow-up investigation and analysis of industrial hygiene related accidents and events. Assist management and employee safety team members on accident investigation and in determining the root cause in accordance with company procedures.
  • Document EAs and sampling activities in accordance with industrial hygiene program documents. Communicate EA and sampling data results to management and employees as required.
  • Attend work schedule and planning meetings as required. Review work control documents. Identify and analyze industrial hygiene/industrial safety hazards associated with planned work activities. Assist in the development of solutions for facility/project work control and procedure documents.
  • Conduct workplace assessments, including area/job walk-downs. Prepare assessment plans and evaluation criteria compatible with organizational objectives. Coordinate participation with other safety disciplines as necessary. Submit work status reports for key performance indicators.
  • Evaluate the implementation of industrial hygiene/industrial safety programs and policies. Work with management to determine solutions and prepare corrective actions, as assigned.
  • Enter and manage issues and findings in the company issues management system. Provide follow-up with management regarding implementation of necessary corrective actions and solutions.
  • Provide technical support and information to line management, including support to industrial hygiene/industrial safety issues.
  • Provide input to contribute to facility/project specific safety and operational goals and initiatives. Promote established goals and provide feedback to line management regarding progress and areas for improvement.
  • Serve as a Technical Point of Contact (TPOC), as assigned, for subject areas within the industrial hygiene/industrial safety discipline.
  • Complete and maintain training for company, facility/project, and industrial hygiene / Industrial Safety position responsibilities.
  • Maintain technical competency and pursue continued professional development.
  • Serve as a representative on management review committees, operational safety boards, or review committees internally or externally as assigned.
  • May attend scheduled discipline meetings and provide technical discussion and presentations on assigned topics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required:

  • Level 1: Bachelor of Science in Industrial Hygiene or a closely related technical field.
  • Level 2: Bachelor of Science in Industrial Hygiene or a closely related technical field and 2 years of experience.
  • Relevant experience commensurate with level
  • Obtain and maintain a DOE L Clearance.

  • Must be willing to qualify as an industrial hygienist and in industrial safety within one year of hire date.

  • Testing Designated Position (TDP) certification

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment, using ladders >6ft, protective clothing, and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is: Level #1 ($47,424 - $112,068) / Level #2 ($ 66,504 - $ 136,356). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
