GENERAL SUMMARY: Maintain safe driving at all times and high attentiveness in regards to bulk material and hazmat substances. Deliver products on time with efficiency and dependability utilizing strategic driving skills and map/ address orientation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety Compliance:

  • Promote and comply with Airgas Safety Policies and Operating Procedures, as well as aiming for zero vehicle accidents and/or injuries, attending all safety training classes, attending monthly safety meetings and Comply with all DOT regulations including the use of required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

  • Report all accidents, possible injuries, safety issues, driving citations and customer complaints to include service interruptions immediately to their supervisor.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Comply with all Facility and corporate policies and procedures. Maintain awareness of all Federal, State, Local, and FDA regulations and stay in compliance with these regulations at all times. Report suspected Regulatory violations or offenses to the appropriate manager.

  • Complete and submit reports as required by the DOT and/or company policy. Ensure all customer delivery tickets are accurate, signed, and provided to the customer.

Vehicle Operation and Maintenance

  • Drive Commercial Motor Vehicle (tractor-trailer) combination, usually long distances, to transport and off-load compressed and liquefied industrial gases to customers or storage sites in a safe, timely, accurate, and courteous manner.

  • Perform pre & post trip inspections to identify any maintenance action that may be required and act appropriately if action is needed.

  • Operate all equipment per company and/or manufacturer guidelines to maximize equipment life cycle and minimize maintenance costs. Exercise care and ensure accuracy when using all safety accessories to include Remote Control Devices, On Board Computers and Audio/Visual Recording Devices, if so equipped

Professionalism and Customer Service

  • Maintain professional appearance, good personal hygiene, and wear a full uniform. Exhibit courteousness to customers at all times, while acting in your role as a product release specialist. Report to work as scheduled

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each job duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Required Education:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

  • HS Diploma or GED, preferred

  • Must possess a valid Class A commercial driver's license with tanker and hazmat endorsement for state of domicile

Required Length & Type of Experience:

  • Three (3) or more year's prior experience as driver of tractor - trailer vehicles

  • Preferred, Three (3) years of Haz-Mat or Tanker experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Product knowledge of cryogenic, compressed and specialty gases, preferred

  • Successful completion and passing of DOT written regulations and road tests

  • Computer skills or ability to improve competence

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Associates may be required to remain stationary for extended periods of time.

  • Associates may occasionally be required to traverse through office and/or manufacturing locations.

  • Associates will frequently be required to actively listen and exchange information.

  • Associates will be required to observe and assess information received via computer.

  • Requires use of computer, telephone and operation of a motor vehicle.

  • Must pass DOT physical to include drug screen

  • Ability to lift and exert up to 60 pounds of force for connecting hoses or turning valves

  • Reasonable manual dexterity for pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls and valves

  • Ability to pull one's own body weight up into the cab of a tractor

  • Work in various inside and outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards

  • Walk, lift, push, pull, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel and crouch frequently

  • Operate motor vehicles/trucks, machines, hand tools and all other job specific equipment and tools

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Moderate overnight travel with the ability to perform layovers, as needed.

  • Must have reliable, appropriate transportation.

  • Job requires working at and traveling to various Airgas and customer sites, which have varying climates, weather conditions and layouts.
