Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, licensed independent practitioner, or manager, the Nurse Intern assists with a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities, with an emphasis on supporting care in high-acuity and critical care environments. Direct activities may include assisting with activities of daily living, comfort measures, safety monitoring, nutritional support, and selected diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for critically ill patients as directed. Indirect patient care activities include maintaining a clean and safe environment, performing disinfection, and ensuring adequate inventory of supplies and equipment essential for critical care delivery. The Nurse Intern also participates in professional development opportunities, including education, training, and shadow experiences, to enhance clinical knowledge, skills, and exposure to critical care practice.
Essential Job Statements Provides direct and indirect patient care under RN supervision, including assistance with daily living and perioperative tasks. Follows care plans and immediately reports any safety concerns. Adheres to all hospital, regulatory, and safety standards to maintain a safe care environment. Follows infection control and safety protocols consistently. Accurately documents care and communicates patient needs and concerns to the healthcare team. Escalates issues appropriately to ensure safe, effective care. Demonstrates professionalism by actively identifying learning needs, using available resources, and complying with organizational policies. Communicates effectively, collaborates with team members, and seeks support when needed to resolve challenges. Demonstrates accountability in the appropriate and cost-effective use of organizational resources. Supports responsible stewardship of supplies, equipment, and time. Participates in ongoing education to support personal development and patient/family learning needs. Completes required training and contributes to a learning environment that supports colleagues and peers. Supports team and departmental goals by performing assigned duties and participating in special projects as needed. Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in meeting changing unit and patient care needs.
