Job Summary:

Performs complex software engineering tasks. Participates in research, design, development and test engineering activities. Identifies, investigates and resolves technical issues. Participates in software design, development, integration and testing activities. Reviews project progress and evaluates results. This position typically works under limited supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

* Participates in software development/engineering programs.

* Identifies, investigates and resolves technical issues.

* Participates in software design activities and identifies technical risks and associated ways to mitigate those risks.

* Develops and executes software test methods, procedures and test cases.

* Defines test schedules and test data requirements. Tests software and documents results.

* Prepares development software, codes software and designs specific enhancements.

* Designs, develops and maintains software applications and system enhancements.

* Performs debugging and troubleshooting activities to identify and resolve software issues.

* Collaborates with cross-functional teams to design, develop and deliver software solutions.

* Participates in Agile development activities, including sprint planning, stand-ups and retrospectives.

* Utilizes approved tools for software development, source control and task management.

* Participates in in-house design reviews, code reviews and technical meetings.

* Maintains state-of-the-art awareness in areas of technical expertise, including changes, advancements and improvements.

* Applies expertise to software engineering and development activities.

* Prepares and maintains software design, technical and end-user documentation as required.

* Identifies software engineering process improvements and supports the execution of them.

* Participates in total quality management/continuous process improvement teams.

* Interfaces with team members, management staff and technical stakeholders as required.

* Assumes additional technical responsibilities as necessary.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Four-year college degree in computer science, electronic engineering or other related technical discipline, plus a minimum of five years of related experience or a master's degree with at least three years of related experience.
  • Must be eligible for a DOD Security Clearance
  • Experience to include software development/engineering, specification, design and development of software systems.
  • Requires proficiency using programming languages such as C++, Java, C#, Product Lifecycle Management, graphics or other developmental software.
  • Experience developing software in Windows and Linux environments preferred.
  • Experience with Visual Studio, CMake, Git, containerized applications, CI/CD processes and Agile development methodologies preferred.
  • Knowledge of software testing methodologies, debugging techniques and software design patterns.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing and interface with team members and stakeholders.
  • Must be able to solve complex and difficult engineering problems.
  • Knowledge of customer needs and competing products desirable.
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex software engineering problems.
  • Able to prioritize work and complete multiple tasks under deadline and budget guidelines.
  • Must be able to work in a lab environment and be able to use a computer.
  • Must be available for domestic and possible international travel.
