NV5 is recruiting a Senior Virtual Design & Construction Manager to support a major airport authority. Embedded within the client's Capital Programs group and reporting to the Design Technologies Program Manager, this is a program-level role responsible for building and running the client's Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) program across its capital design and construction portfolio. The position sits at the intersection of design technology strategy and hands-on delivery, shaping how the authority adopts model-first practices while working directly alongside its project teams. It is well suited to a digital design leader who can both set program direction and operate fluently in the tools and workflows that bring it to life, ideally with experience in complex aviation or infrastructure environments.



Responsibilities

Virtual Design and Construction (VDC)

    Train and assist members including PMs and APMs in the use of VDC tools and processes.
  • Support model-first project management, process workflows, and construction technology deployment for Design and Construction projects.
  • Contribute to KPI's and metrics to evaluate and assess value, impact, ROI of established VDC initiatives.
  • Monitor and track BIM/VDC specific metrics via Dashboards or other tracking platforms.
  • Support the implementation of BIM 360/ACC throughout the department and lead the deployment for each specific project.

Building Information Modeling (BIM)

  • Assist in the utilization of BIM as a part of design reviews.
  • Lead the development of project BIM execution plans and provide recommendations for program-level improvements to execution plans.
  • Research and standardize BIM workflows across design, construction and Asset Management practice as well as organizing and communicating BIM technical information to senior staff.
  • Attend design and construction meetings as needed to understand project scopes and to assist designers in understanding standards.
  • Oversee the development of Civil 3D base files from as-built records as they come in. Includes surface model, underground utilities, etc.
  • Support the Airside and Landside Engineering teams with Civil 3D design work for in-house design efforts.
  • Manage the maintenance of existing and newly developed BIM to ensure all models are current, accurate and complete in accordance with VDC/BIM Guidelines.
  • Train APM's in use of Revit to increase the department's overall capabilities with these products.
  • Demonstrate how BIM supports Asset Management and implement a program to fulfill MPA's requirements.

CAD/Civil 3D oversight

  • Oversee drafting efforts for in-house design.
  • Oversee the review of consultant design drawings for compliance within standards.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers to ensure timely delivery of as-builts.

ADDITIONAL JOB TASKS:

  • Support multiple capital projects at a given time.
  • Maintain project central files, as appropriate.
  • Provide in-house technical input and technical reviews in area of professional expertise.
  • Possess a high level of enthusiasm and commitment for mentoring all levels of staff.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.


Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree desired in architecture, engineering, or construction management.
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in Revit and building design and construction or experience implementing design and construction information technologies.

EXPERIENCE

  • Must have high level of experience with Revit, Revit MEP/Structure, Navisworks, BIM 360/ACC, and Civil 3D. Experience writing BIM standards and guidelines a plus.
  • Aviation specific VDC project/program experience preferred.

UNIQUE EXPERTISE/CERTIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to collaborate with and motivate established professionals, external partners, and direct reports.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of the nuances, features, functions, and limitations of Autodesk BIM Platforms, including experience with complex workflows involving these platforms.
  • Knowledge of Design-Bid-Build, Construction Manager at Risk, Design/Build, and other modern contractual delivery methods.
  • Understands project workflows from design, estimation, construction administration and coordination, and fabrication.
  • Knowledge of other spatial data concepts including GIS.
  • Knowledge of BIM 360 and or ACC and its utilization in complex design/construction projects.
  • Building Condition Assessment concepts and experience with assisting with condition inspections and assessments.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Environmental Parameters: Ability to work in an office and to commute to all airport facilities.
  • Ability to pass a background check and obtain Security Badge to access airport facilities.
  • Ability to work in or on land and water vehicles at airport locations.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Ability to work a 40-hour workweek, and ability to meet fluctuating workload demands, as necessary.
