Position Summary:

The Orthopedic Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care and care coordination for orthopedic patients in the outpatient clinic setting. The RN collaborates with orthopedic surgeons, advanced practice providers, medical assistants, rehabilitation services, ancillary departments, patients, and families to promote safe, effective, and efficient patient care throughout the continuum of treatment.

Education and Licensure
* Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
* Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
* Current BLS certification required.
* ACLS certification preferred.
* Orthopedic Nursing Certification (ONC) preferred.

Experience
* Minimum two years of nursing experience preferred.
* Orthopedic, ambulatory care, surgical services, specialty clinic, or care coordination experience preferred.
* Experience with electronic medical records required.
* Knowledge of orthopedic diagnoses, procedures, and treatment plans preferred.

Skills
* Strong clinical assessment and triage skills.
* Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage competing demands.
* Strong organizational and critical thinking skills.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to effectively educate patients and families.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
* Knowledge of insurance authorization processes, care coordination, and clinical documentation standards.
* Proficiency in electronic medical record systems and standard office equipment.

Typical Working Conditions
The work of this position is performed primarily in an outpatient orthopedic clinic environment. The position requires frequent interaction with patients, families, physicians, staff, insurance representatives, employers, and community agencies. Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, medicinal preparations, cleaning agents, and other conditions common to healthcare environments may occur.

Physical Demands
* The ideal candidate must be able to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
* Frequently stands, walks, bends, reaches, and moves throughout the clinic environment.
* May lift, transfer, push, or pull up to 35 pounds.
* Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate clinical and office equipment.
* Requires visual and auditory acuity necessary for patient assessment, communication, and documentation.
* Requires ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.

Annual Requirements
* Maintains current Illinois RN license.
* Maintains current BLS certification.
* Completes continuing education requirements necessary for licensure.
* Completes annual Employee Health requirements.
* Participates in department meetings as required.
* Completes assigned HealthStream education modules.
