Overview

Assists the registered nurse with delegated patient care and routine unit duties. Performs the functions necessary for constant
observation of cardiac monitors for telemetry patients including: observation, interpretation, and documentation of cardiac
rhythms and notification of changes to the appropriate nursing staff.
Qualifications

Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)American Heart Association (AHA), Education: H.S. Diploma/GED (Required), Work Experience: Certified nursing assistant
Responsibilities

Demonstrates clinical competence in patient care duties. Assists the nurse with delegated tasks effectively, efficiently and in a thorough manner. Performs tasks as directed by registered nurses as identified by approved policies and procedures in keeping with annual competencies
Participates in patient related data collection and reports the information to the nurse in a timely manner. Data collection and documentation includes accurate Intake and Output, Activities of Daily Living, daily weights (or as ordered), percentage of meals eaten, patient education.
Demonstrates clinical competency in cardiac monitoring and interpretation of rhythms and effectively communicates changes in rhythm to the appropriate staff. Performs job responsibilities per designated telemetry protocols and guidelines. Per admission protocol: a) Prepares monitor data bank for initial application of telemetry on patients with new telemetry orders. b) Completes patient verification process with floor personnel c) Obtains and analyzes an ECG tracing of each patient
Ongoing shift responsibilities a) Continually observes and interprets cardiac rhythms of all monitored patients. b) Obtains, interprets, and documents ECG tracing with rhythm, rate, PR, QRS, QT measurements, ectopy or other variances of each monitored patient a minimum of every 8 hours, as changes occur, or per staff requests for inclusion in the patient's medical record c) Makes routine and timely checks on the status of patients who are off telemetry monitoring for tests or procedures. d) Maintains continual ST segment monitoring on all CVCU and ICU patients unless receives instructions to the contrary from the assigned RN. e) Completes review of alarm history each shift. Provides documentation summary and staff notification as appropriate.
Per discharge protocol, reviews alarm history for every patient discontinued from telemetry and completes documentation and /or notification as appropriate. Clears alarm history and ensures return to preset alarm levels.
Adheres to telemetry specific safety guidelines: Completes patient verification process with floor personnel for 1) pt identification and 2) placement of assigned monitor for every patient placed on telemetry. Ensures each ECG tracing is labeled with the patient's last name, room number, medical record number, date & time, initials of monitor technician interpreting strip. Ensures alarms for detecting life-threatening arrhythmia remain on at all times. Adjusts alarms only under the direction of the registered nurse. Labels monitor bank regarding specific pt procedures/tests/temporary location, treatments, IV drips, DNR status, AICD and pacemakers as appropriate. Able to troubleshoot problems associated with the performance of Datascope applications and equipment. Institutes downtime procedures in the event of equipment or power failure. Maintains accurate daily telemetry report sheet each shift with rhythm details plus the patient log as appropriate. Demonstrates competency in entering patient data into the central telemetry monitor data bank.
Maintains a safe, organized & efficient work and patient environment. Removes, reports, replaces non-functioning or malfunctioning equipment as appropriate. Notifies BioMed of all telemetry malfunctions and equipment problems as soon as possible. Keeps unit manager informed of any issues with equipment, processes, etc.
Communicates in a positive manner with patients, physicians, nursing staff, families, and other hospital associates,

supporting the hospital mission, values and philosophy.
Promptly reports any situations that call for the attention of the registered nurse or department leadership.
Answers the telephone, directs incoming calls and takes messages that are accurate and complete. Answers call lights and locates appropriate staff to respond.
Provides training for new monitor techs and nursing techs.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $19.86per hour - $32.17per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
