What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking an Electro-Mechanical Technologist to join our team supporting the Range Manager and his delegates at the Tonopah Test Range (TTR). In this role, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team designing and developing advanced systems for national defense programs, homeland security, and nondefense applications.

At TTR, you will work with state-of-the-art technologies, including:

  • Radar systems (X-band, C-band, Continuous-Wave Pulse Doppler)
  • Mounted optical systems
  • Radar instrumentation architectures
  • Data capture and transmission systems
  • Electrical control systems and components

Your expertise will be essential as you engage with PC-based control systems, electric drive systems, synchro/servos, and data/video encoder systems. This position requires a strong application-based understanding of radar theory, RF fundamentals, and the ability to troubleshoot discrete component technology.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Operate, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot tracking radar systems and supporting remote field testing as required
  • Analyze and diagnose problems with associated systems and networks using a wide range of technical equipment
  • Collaborate with a dynamic group of field test support personnel to ensure the successful completion of Sandia National Laboratories flight test missions
  • Assist in the development of future range processes and procedures, contributing to documentation and protocols that enhance operational efficiency and safety
  • Follow established range guidance to ensure compliance with operational, facility, and infrastructure quality requirements, incorporating corporate safety and work planning processes into all activities
  • Set up and calibrate equipment for testing, ensuring all systems are prepared for operational readiness
  • Develop and deliver presentations, proposals, and reports, effectively communicating technical information to team members and stakeholders
  • Perform well under high-stress conditions and meet tight deadlines, adapting to changing mission requirements and priorities

Location and Work Environment:
This position is located at the Tonopah Test Range near Tonopah, NV. You will be expected to work and reside at this remote site 3-4 days per week, with transportation provided from Tonopah or Las Vegas. The role requires the ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a dynamic environment. Please note this position is not eligible for remote or virtual work options.

Salary Range

$71,100 - $137,500

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of verifiable and directly applicable experience in Electronics, Radar Systems (Tracking/Acquisition) operations and maintenance, Electro-Mechanical systems, Engineering discipline, or other technical discipline.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
Qualifications We Desire

  • Vocational-Technical Certificate in a relevant mechanical or electrical concentration areas, and/or an Associate's degree or higher in a relevant technical field.
  • Experience with modern radar systems as well as pre-2000 era systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate, troubleshoot and repair to component level of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Analog and/or fiber optic cable design and fabrication experience.
  • Proven experience in conducting systems analysis to recommend solutions on problems affecting systems or equipment.
  • Remote field test experience and/or knowledge of Tonopah Test Range.
  • Current DOE L or Q clearance.
About Our Team

We are charged with the operation of the Tonopah Test Range. The TTR team is responsible for planning and executing the Flight Test portion of the Stockpile Surveillance program. Additionally, a requirement exists to plan and execute tests in support of other Federal Agencies.

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
